Dhawan drives India to 203/5 against South Africa in 1st T20I
Shikhar Dhawan smashed his fourth T20I half-century to power India to a challenging 203 for 5 against South Africa in the opening match of the three-game series, here today. Dhawan scored 72 off only 39 balls, hitting 10 fours and 2 sixes, while Virat Kohli (26 off 20 balls) and Manish Pandey (29 off 27 balls) also made useful contributions after Rohit Sharma (21 off 9 balls) gave India a power-packed start. Russian Olympic athlete involved in meldonium doping case: source
A Russian athlete at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics has been implicated in a doping case involving the banned substance meldonium, a source close to the situation told AFP today. It comes after a spokesman for the Olympic Athletes from Russia said one of its competitors committed a "possible violation of anti-doping rules", according to Russian media. If the case is confirmed, it will come before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which is handling doping matters at the Olympics and has an ad hoc division in Pyeongchang. Russia are banned from the Olympics over systemic doping, but 168 Russian athletes deemed clean are competing in Pyeongchang under the neutral banner of Olympic Athletes from Russia. A fresh doping case would be deeply embarrassing and could affect deliberations on whether to lift Russia's ban in time for the Pyeongchang closing ceremony. Manavaditya Rathore wins silver shotgun meet
The promising Manavaditya Singh Rathore has won a silver medal in the Qatar Open Shotgun meet in Lusail, Qatar. Participating in the junior men's trap event, Manavaditya shot 118 to finish second on the podium behind Italy's Angelo Scalzone, who shot 119. Germany's Jeremy Schulz won the bronze medal with a score of 115. Son of Sports Minister and Athens Olympics silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, the 19-year-old Manavaditya started with 23 in the first series of 25 shots and improved it to 24 in the next three series, but could manage only a 23 in the fifth and final series yesterday. The field had a total of 11 shooters, including James Dedman of Great Britain, who recently switched from double trap to trap shooting. South Africa's injury woes continued with their star batsman AB de Villiers being ruled out of the three-match T20I series due to a knee injury here today. De Villiers had suffered a blow to his left knee a day before the fifth ODI. Though the former skipper featured in the last two games but he was absent when the Proteas trained yesterday. "He suffered a blow to the knee while batting ahead of the fifth ODI, and although he passed a fitness test on Friday, the injury worsened significantly throughout the match," Mohammed Moosajee, South Africa's team manager, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. A Russian athlete at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics has committed a "possible violation of anti-doping rules", the team's spokesman told Russian media today. "Today the headquarters of our delegation received an official notice from the IOC regarding a possible violation of anti-doping rules," Konstantin Vybornov, spokesman for the Olympic Athletes from Russia, was quoted as saying. "We are not naming the athlete or the discipline until the B probe opening results, which are expected within approximately 24 hours." Vybornov was not immediately available to confirm the statement, which was carried by several Russian media including the TASS news agency. Birthday boy Dipanda Dicka notched a brace and Akram Moghrabi netted the winner as Mohun Bagan came out 3-2 victors over Neroca FC to dash the home side's title hopes in the I-League here today. Felix Chidi and Singam Subhash Singh scored the goals for the home side but allowed the visitors to get back into the game at the Khuman Lampak Stadium. Chidi was brought back into the line-up in place of Nedo Turkovic as Neroca FC looked to win and stay on top of the table.
