West Indies to host first day-night Test against Sri Lanka

The West Indies will host their first ever day-night Test when Sri Lanka tour the Caribbean in June, cricket officials said today. The final Test of the three-match series will be a day- night encounter at the Kensington Oval in Barbados starting June 23, said Sri Lanka Cricket. Sri Lanka depart for the West Indies in late May and will play a two-day warm up match before the opening Test starting June 6 at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago. The second Test gets under way June 14 at St. Lucia. The West Indies have played two day-night Tests but never on home soil. Sri Lanka made their pink-ball Test debut against Pakistan last year in the United Arab Emirates. Australia hosted New Zealand for the first-ever Test played under lights with a pink ball at the Adelaide Oval in November 2015.

Russia's athletes 'hugely disappointed' with IOC verdict

Russia's Olympic Athletes Commission today expressed "huge disappointment" over the International Olympic Committee decision not to invite to Pyeongchang 15 Russian athletes and staff whose life bans for doping were lifted. The IOC ruled yesterday that 13 Russian athletes and two ex-athletes now working as support staff will not be invited to the Pyeongchang Winter Games despite having their life bans for doping removed last week by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The IOC has barred Russia from the Pyeongchang Olympics, which open on Friday, over a widespread doping conspiracy. But 169 Russians who have passed strict anti-doping protocols will compete under a neutral flag as Olympic Athletes from Russia. "With a huge disappointment, the members of ROC's Athletes' Commission have found out about decision of IOC's Invitation Review Panel not to invite 13 Russian athletes and 2 coaches fully acquitted by (the CAS) to 2018 Winter Olympics," the commission ...

Asian zone is toughest to get to World Group: Kazakh captain

Kazakhstan Fed Cup captain Dias Doskarayev says it is a wrong perception that Asia/Oceania zone provides the easiest passage to the World Group since the level of competition is stiffest in the Group. Doskarayev said they have brought their best singles players for the competitions but refused suggestions that his side will be favourite to win the tie and seal a berth in the Play-offs for the World Group II. World number 50 Yuliya Pitintseva will lead the Kazakh challenge and will be supported by world number 60 Zarina Diyas with Gozal Ainitdinova and Zhibek Kulambayeva. Yulia and Zarina are the highest-ranked players in Asia/Oceania Group I competition this year. "Yes, we have the highest-ranked players but we are not favourites. There are no easy matches in Asia zone. Our number three and four players are upcoming players, so we will rely on our leaders (Yulia and Zarina)," Doskarayev, who was elected Vice President of the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation, said after ...

'We're in trouble' Pound lashes IOC response to Russia doping

Former world anti- doping chief Dick Pound slammed the Olympic response to the Russian doping scandal today, warning "we talk more than we walk" and saying that the Games' credibility had taken a serious hit. Pound was speaking at an International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Gangneung, South Korea, three days before the Pyeongchang Winter Games, which have been engulfed in complications from Russia's drugs conspiracy. Pound's tough comments prompted a complaint from the floor that he talks too much to the press, a jibe which in turn triggered a furious response from the Canadian. Russia's suspension follows a highly orchestrated plot culminating during its hosting of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, where tainted samples were switched through a hole in the anti-doping laboratory's ..
