Chhetri scores twice as Bengaluru whip Mumbai to top table

India rise 3 places to occupy 102nd spot in FIFA rankings

India jumped three rungs to be placed 102nd in the first FIFA rankings of the year released today. India, who are just above 103rd placed Qatar, are ranked 14th among Asian countries. India garnered 13 points in the last one month for a total of 333 points. The Indians remained unbeaten in 2017, having won seven of their nine matches while two ended in draws. India had also qualified for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. The top 14 spots remained unchanged with reigning World Champions Germany at the top followed by Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium. Iran are the top-ranked Asian team at the 34th position.

Zimbabwe domestic cricket official charged with corruption

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged Rajan Nayer, a Zimbabwe domestic cricket official, for breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption code on three counts.Nayer, the Treasurer and Marketing Director of the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association, has also been provisionally suspended with immediate effect.He has been charged with breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC's code ( being party to an effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspects of an International match or matches), Article 2.1.3 (offering a player US $30,000 to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspects of an International match or matches) and Article 2.1.4 (directly solicited, induced, enticed or encouraged a player to breach Article 2.1.1).Nayer now has 14 days, starting from 16 January, to respond to the charges.

AIFF stresses on zero tolerance policy after match fixing allegations

All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Integrity Officer Javed Siraj on Thursday stressed on its zero tolerance policy towards any match fixing allegations or any corruption related to the sport.AIFF's response comes after the alleged match-fixing attempt by two players of the I-League club Minerva Punjab in the ongoing season.Earlier, owner of Minerva Punjab club, Ranjeet Bajaj had taken to his official Twitter account to reveal that two of his team players were offered Rs 30 lakh each for match-fixing.In response to the allegations, Siraj said, "We have been conducting regular educative and awareness workshops with the various Clubs and even various age-group National Teams on a regular basis. Indian shuttlers B Sai Praneeth and the women's doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy bowed out of the Malaysia Masters badminton meet here today. Praneeth lost to top seeded Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 17 -21, 8-21 while Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy went down to Denmark's Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen 15-21, 15-21.
