Committee submits draft constitution to MCA
The Constitution Committee of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) today submitted a draft constitution to the cricket body. "The draft was today submitted by the Constitution Committee and now it will be taken up for discussion in the Managing Committee meeting tomorrow," a senior MCA official, who is privy to the development, told PTI. He said after tomorrow's meeting, the draft constitution would be circulated among members who will be asked to give their objections or suggestions. However, the official, did not divulge details, about it. While the MCA was yet to adopt the Supreme Court appointed Lodha panel recommendations, the Pune-based Maharashtra Cricket Association had recently accepted these recommendations.
France suspends referee who kicked player
The referee who kicked a player during a French Ligue 1 game and then sent him off has been suspended "until further notice", the French Football Federation (FFF) said today. Tony Chapron kicked Diego Carlos of Nantes towards the end of Sunday's match against Paris Saint-Germain after being knocked over when the pair collided in a bizarre incident. Chapron then showed the player a second yellow card. He apologised on Monday, saying Carlos had bumped into him but that his own reaction had been "clumsy" and "inappropriate". The FFF said its technical committee of referees had decided that Chapron be "withdrawn... until further notice". He will be called to appear before the French league's disciplinary commission to explain himself. The sanction means he has been removed from refereeing duties for Wednesday's Ligue 1 game between Angers and Troyes. India were today clubbed with formidable Kazakhstan, who have world number 54 Yuliya Putintseva in their ranks, and China for the Asia/Oceania Group I competition in Fed Cup, scheduled to be held here from February 7-10. The fourth team in Pool A is Hong Kong. The Pool B comprises Chinese Taipei, Japan, Thailand and Korea. Punjab, alongside Delhi, are all but through to the Super League stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy after a 19-run win over Himachal Pradesh in a high-scoring North Zone match here today. Indian Paralympic table tennis player Suvarna Raj has decided to quit the game, alleging that she has been denied playing opportunities due to politics in sports bodies.Suvarna (34), who was afflicted by polio at the age of two, has won two medals in Thailand Para Table Tennis Open 2013 and has also participated in the Asian Para Games 2014 in Korea.Suvarna told ANI, "Not a single national game has been organised since 2012, how are the players supposed to play then? The players are not informed about the teams participating in the events by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI)," said irked."There is no game in Para, where politics is not involved. Teenager drowns while attempting to retrieve football
A teenaged boy today drowned in a check dam while attempting to retrieve a foot ball he was playing near Putturvayal near Gudalur in Nilgiris District. police said a group of youth were playing football and the ball went to the checkdam and some of the boys jumped to take the ball. However, the 17-year-old Mohammed Fahid, who does not know swimming, caught in the slush and could not come out, they said. When others raised an alarm and some persons nearby managed to pull out Fahid, who by then died, police said.
