Sarkar on target as Arrows beat Gokulam Kerala FC

Indian Arrows continued their exciting journey in the Hero I-League 2017-18 as they beat Gokulam Kerala FC 1-0 here today. Abhijit Sarkar (77 minute), who scored his first goal in the Hero I-League on his birthday against Neroca FC, calmly slotted the only goal of the match to conquer the team from the southernmost state of India. Arrows coach Luis Norton de Matos went back to his trusted players Boris Singh, Anwar Ali in the defence along with Sanjeev Stalin. Local boy Rahul K P was also handed a start by the gaffer. Arrows took only two minutes to settle down as Aniket Yadav bombed one from inside the box which just flew over the crossbar. Parthiv, Rahul set to play; Ishant may replace Bhuvi

The Indian team management is all set to drop wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha and opener Shikhar Dhawan from the playing XI for the second Test against South Africa but chances of Ajinkya Rahane's comeback look highly unlikely. It is learnt that the conditions in Centurion may not aid swing bowling and Ishant Sharma could be considered in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, despite his six-wicket match haul and a gritty 25 in the first Test. However, the Ishant-Bhuvneshwar swap is still not confirmed even though the other two changes are more or less certain. Pint-sized Gujarat wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who is universally acknowledged as a far more accomplished batsman than Saha, is set to get a look-in along with Karnataka opener KL Rahul. Dhawan's susceptible technique in bouncy and seaming conditions has been under the scanner and Rahul, who had hit his maiden Test hundred in Australia, is considered to be more well equipped technically. Parthiv last played against ...

If pacers take upper hand in series, so be it: Faf du Plessis

South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won't mind if their fast bowlers, who have "X factor", shape their victories against India and admitted they have demanded wickets which assist pace and bounce. "Sitting here as a batsman, the first priority is to win games. If we play in series where the ball takes the upper hand, so be it. As long as we are winning it is fine, Du Plessis said on the eve of the second Test. The home captain though said the wicket at the Supersport Park is a lot browner than he thought. "The information from the groundsmen is that the grass on the wicket has been burnt from the heat over the last week. It was very hot. Weve asked for pace and bounce so hopefully we will get that. It is the key thing," he said. "If there was a bit of grass on it, its fine then we back ourselves. If it was a low-scoring game, wed want to get 20 or 30 or 50 more. I expect a good cricket wicket and hopefully pace and bounce. We prepare bowling friendly conditions because ..

Hardik Pandya nowhere near Kapil Dev yet: Karsan Ghavri

Former India bowler Karsan Ghavri believes that in-form all-rounder Hardik Pandya is nowhere near legendary Kapil Dev yet. Pandya starred with the bat in the Champions Trophy final last year, and in the first innings of the opening Test against South Africa last week. Some sports writers have compared Pandya to Kapil Dev. "He (Kapil) is being so modest to say -- I read in the newspaper -- that Hardik Pandya is a better all-rounder than him. In my view Hardik Pandya is nowhere near Kapil Dev," Ghavri, who opened the bowling with Kapil in several Test matches, said last night. "And even if he has to reach there, he has got a long long way to go. It's a very difficult comparison, but (Hardik) he is nowhere near Kapil Dev right now," Ghavri quipped. The Rajkot-born former left-hand pacer was speaking at a programme organised by The Legends Club to mark the 59th birthday of Kapil Dev at the Cricket Club of India here. "Time will tell how far he (Hardik) can reach close to ...
