I'm still learning, says Sindhu
Olympic silver medallist P V Sindhu Wednesday said she still has lots to learn and needs to add a few more shots to her repertoire to dominate world badminton. With silver medals at all the major events, including the Olympics, World Championship, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, Sindhu has been a formidable force in the world in the last three years. But the world no 1 tag has eluded her with Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying stamping her authority at the top with 14 title triumphs since 2016. Asked if she needs to add strokes and deception to dominate world badminton, Sindhu said: "Definitely yes.It is only the starting for me. I have a lot more to learn. I have good strokes but I have to keep learning new strokes everyday. "But I think only one player can't dominate badminton, because the game is changing right now as a lot more players are coming up. Bhandari Assault: DDCA bans U-23 player Anuj Dedha for life
Tainted cricketer Anuj Dedha, who had assaulted former India pacer and Delhi selector Amit Bhandari, was Wednesday banned for life by the state association. After being rejected for the state U-23 team, Dedha along with his hired goons had attacked senior and U-23 selection committee chairman Bhandari at the St Stephen's ground on Monday when a practice game of the senior team was on. The cops later nabbed him and he is currently under police custody. It was former Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir, a member of DDCA's apex council, who proposed a life ban for Dedha during a meeting with DDCA president Rajat Sharma and the selectors. "Anuj Dedha will be banned for life and the decision was taken at a meeting which was also attended by the selectors and Gautam Gambhir, who is a member of the apex council. India juniors win a bagful of medals at Bahrain Open
In an all-India final, Anargaya Manjunath and Suhana Saini secured the top spot at the ITTF Bahrain Junior and Cadet Open in Manama. The top cadet girls team of India, comprising Manjunath and Saini defeated the second team consisting of Yashashwini Ghorpade and Kavyashree Baskar 3-0, in the final played on Tuesday. In the singles event, both Anargaya and Suhana won their matches against Yashashwini and Kavyashree, respectively, to put their side 2-0 up. In the third rubber, the doubles, both Yashashwini and Kavyashree resisted taking their rivals to the decider. In a first, Asian Boxing C'ships to have simultaneous competition for men, women
The Asian Boxing Championship will be held simultaneously for men and women for the first time since its inception when Bangkok hosts the continental showpiece's 30th edition from April 19 to 27 this year. Participating teams have time till March 19 to register for the tournament, which began in the Thai capital back in 1963. The women's Asian Championships has had seven editions so far, the last being in Vietnam in 2017. "For the very first time in the history of the elite event, both genders will be attending at the same time in Thailand's capital which is scheduled to take place in April 16-27," the Asian Boxing Confederation said in a statement. The championships will be held in 10 weight classes for both men and women. The competition will be held at the Huamark Indoor Stadium which has a capacity of 6,000 seats. India's Anirban Lahiri is all set to return in action at the star-studded Genesis Open after a month-long break during which he and wife Ipsa were blessed with a baby girl. Lahiri and his wife announced the arrival of their daughter Tisya, who was born on February 4. "Tisya's birth was the best thing ever in our lives and we feel really blessed. It does make me more motivated as I am back in action at the Genesis Open," said Lahiri. The 31-year-old Lahiri, who featured at the Sony Open in Hawaii and Desert Classic, missed the cut in the latter event. He then took time off to prepare for parenthood. Days after ace shooter Rahi Sarnobat expressed apprehensions about her financial security, Maharashtra Sports Minister Vinod Tawde on Wednesday assured the Asian Games gold medallist to look into the issue.
