Bengaluru Open: Sri Lanka's Rohana powers ahead by three shots
Teen golfer Aadil Bedi hogged the limelight with a classy seven-under 65 to take the second place but it was Sri Lankan Anura Rohana, who powered ahead by three shots after round two at the Bengaluru Open Golf Championship here Friday. 17-year-old rookie Bedi, playing only his fourth professional event, climbed 13 places from his overnight tied 15th after taking his two-day total to 10-under-134. The 45-year-old Rohana's bogey-free eight-under-64 in windy conditions in the latter half of the day took his 36-hole total to an imposing 13-under-131 at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) course. The halfway cut fell at one-over-145 at the Rs. 60 lakh event. Sixty-two professionals and one amateur made the cut. Rohana (67-64), who began the day in fourth place, one off the lead, sizzled from the very start as he sank birdies on his first two holes, the 10th and 11th. FIH initiates inquiry against Pak coach Danish, hearing to be held on Saturday
The world hockey body (FIH) has initiated an inquiry against Pakistan's assistant coach Danish Kaleem for breaching security protocol, adding to the list of off-field issues plaguing the former champions at the ongoing men's Hockey World Cup here. Danish has been called for a hearing by the FIH technical delegate on Saturday after he was charged for moving around in the stadium without having his accreditation card during the Pool D match against Malaysia on Wednesday. Bowlers and stand-in skipper Siddesh Lad who scored an unbeaten 70 led Mumbai's fight-back against Maharashtra on day two of their Elite Group A Ranji Trophy match here. After bundling out Maharashtra for 352, Mumbai ended the second day at 196 for 5, still adrift by 156 runs, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium at Gahunje near Pune on Friday. On a high after breaking a 37-year-old steeplechase record, Services runner Avinash Sable will look to defend the men's title in the Indian category of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K run here on December 16. The fifth edition of the event will also have women's defending champion in L Suriya, the organisers announced Friday. The 24-year-old Sable clocked 8:29.80 seconds at the 58th Open National Athletics Championship in Bhubaneswar in September to eclipse the old mark of 8:30.88 seconds recorded by Gopal Saini in Tokyo in 1981. Sable is the course record holder with a time of 1:15:17 he clocked last year. City footballers to be trained by European coaches
Coaches from European nations such as Denmark are set to conduct a two-day training session for the national capital region's U-19 footballers from various schools. The sessions will be organised at the Ambedkar Stadium on December 11 and 12. No registration fee will be charged, the city's football association said. The move comes following a two-day Indo-Danish Sports Week. Indo Europe Sports and leisure Council, an organisation registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, was formed in 2016 with an aim to promote relations between India and Europe through sports and leisure activities, to promote and develop football among the youth of the country. The council has so far organised six coaching camps and 10 UEFA Pro License coaches visited India in the last two years.
