Russia risks missing lab access deadline, RUSADA head says

The Russian government risks missing a deadline to allow access to the Moscow laboratory at the center of the country's doping scandals, the head of the country's anti-doping agency said Friday. A deal between the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Russian government allowed the agency, known as RUSADA, to be reinstated in September in return for data from the lab by the end of 2018. "I am feeling worried about how the situation is developing regarding access to the Moscow lab," RUSADA CEO Yuri Ganus told the Tass news agency. He added that talks on how access should be granted have so far failed to agree on who exactly should be allowed into the lab and progress is needed "rapidly" as the WADA board prepares to meet next week. If Russia fails to uphold its promise, Ganus said, "we will lose trust, if not forever, then for many years." Ganus said he offered his help to Russian law enforcement, which sealed off the lab in 2016, but didn't get an answer. If Russia fails to give WADA the ..

Former champions ATK would look to end their barren run at home when they take on a struggling FC Pune City in an Indian Super League football match, here Saturday. ATK have suffered three defeats from six matches this season, all of them at home. The two-time former champions will hope their forward Kalu Uche is fit to start the game. The Nigerian had sustained a muscle injury during the team's 1-2 loss to Bengaluru FC in their previous outing. Their star-studded attack force which consists of Uche, Manuel Lanzarote, and Balwant Singh is yet to fire on all cylinders. Coppell will be hoping Under-17 World Cupper Komal Thatal steps up again. The youngster had impressed in the previous game when he broke through the high profile Bengaluru FC defence to give ATK the lead. "He's got energy and he's got legs. He's very skilful on the ball. England remove Sri Lanka's top three with victory in sight

England made strides towards a big victory in the first Test in Galle on Friday, removing Sri Lanka's top three before lunch on the fourth day as thunderstorms held off. Set a gargantuan 462 for victory, the hosts ended the morning session on 98 for 3, after their openers had earlier batted out the first hour of play. But Kaushal Silva went leg before to Jack Leach for 30 and Dimuth Karunaratne was caught and bowled by fellow spinner Moeen Ali for 26, both dismissals the result of attacking strokes. Dhananjaya de Silva, who had made a confident start to his innings, was caught at first slip by skipper Joe Root off Ben Stokes in the last over of the session for 21. One ball earlier, de Silva had been given out caught behind flashing at a Stokes delivery wide of the off stump, but he was reprieved on review. England's varied attack, which features three seamers and three spinners, probed persistently through the morning as captain Root employed attacking field placements. Home skipper

FICA chief calls for education program to prevent ball-tampering

Federation of International Cricketers Association (FICA) chief executive Tony Irish has advocated the use of educational programs to check the menace of ball-tampering in the game. In March, international cricket was plunged into crisis when three Australian players, including skipper Steve Smith and opener David Warner, were banned for their role in ball-tampering during a Test series against South Africa. Irish feels increasing penalties will help but the best way to address the problem is to educate the cricketers about the ICC's rules and regulations. "One of the things that we continue to advocate for is clarity in the rules and consistency in the way issues, including altering the condition of the ball, are dealt with by the ICC," Irish told Fairfax Media. "Clearly if the ICC increases penalties, that is one way to send a message. "Prevention is always better than a cure though and we would like to see global education standards and programs across the game, including on codes .
