Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed insists his team can end an 11-match losing run to New Zealand when the two sides meet in the first one-day international in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. Pakistan crushed New Zealand 3-0 in the preceding Twenty20 series on Sunday -- their second whitewash in a week following a romp over Australia, also in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. But Sarfraz, part of the team in the last 11 one-day internationals all of which Pakistan lost, want to finally win against New Zealand. "It's important to break that losing streak and we need to bring improvement in our performance in one-day internationals," said Sarfraz on Tuesday. Pakistan lost the last two matches in a 3-2 series defeat in United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2014, before losing 2-0 in 2015, 2-0 in 2016 and 5-0 in January 2018 -- all in New Zealand. "If you look at our losses most of them were in New Zealand where conditions were different and we lost due to top order failure where we need to improve," said ...

The Bombay High Court Tuesday set up an ad-hoc (temporary) committee to look after day-to-day functioning of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). At present, the MCA does not have a managing committee. Justice S K Shinde was hearing an application filed by the city cricket body seeking appointment of a panel which could take financial and other administrative decisions. The application was filed a week after the high court refused to interfere in the BCCI's decision to shift a One-Day International match between India and West Indies from the MCA-run Wankhede Stadium to Brabourne Stadium of the Cricket Club of India here. In April this year, the high court had appointed a committee of administrators, comprising two retired judges, for the MCA after the Lodha committee reforms for cricket bodies were implemented. The two judges said later that they were not interested in having their tenure extended on account of allegations levelled against them by some members of MCA. The MCA told ..

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjerekar Tuesday escaped unhurt after one of the glass doors of the commentary box at the newly-built Ekana Stadium lay shattered just as the duo was entering the enclosure. The Ekana Stadium, which was renamed as Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityananth earlier in the day, made its debut as international cricket venue on Tuesday. Both the former cricketers were lucky to return unscratched. "One of the glass doors just crumbled like a pack of cards but luckily no one sustained any injuries. All are safe," Manjrekar later said. It could have been even worse as mismanagement and chaos ruled the roost during international cricket's return to the 'City of Nawabs' after a hiatus of 24 years. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium is a private property situated inside the Ekana Sportz City, being developed in the outskirts of the state capital Inexperience on the part of the organisers was .

Debutant Ben Foakes hit a defiant and unbeaten 87, guiding England to safety -- after Sri Lanka claimed cheap early wickets -- on 321 for eight at the end of the first day of the first Test. The Surrey wicket-keeper batsman, who knows this could just be a one-off chance as Jonny Bairstow regains fitness, came in with England precariously placed on 103 for five on a Galle pitch notorious for low scores. Foakes built crucial partnerships including an 88-run seventh wicket stand with Sam Curran, who made 48, to defy Sri Lanka's bowlers. England elected to bat first in what was Sri Lankan spin legend Rangana Herath's farewell match. The right-handed Foakes steadied the innings reaching his half century early in the final session as the tourists lost just three wickets after lunch. Foakes put on 61 for the sixth wicket with Jos Buttler, who was eventually caught behind off Dilruwan Perera for 38. Left-hander Curran attacked the bowling, hitting one four and three sixes before falling two ..
