Negligence or delay in addressing public concerns won't be tolerated: Yogi

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives to officials, emphasising that there must be no delay, or negligence, in addressing public grievances and assisting victims under any circumstances. "If any negligence occurs, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible," he said. While addressing public concerns during the Janata Darshan held at the Gorakhnath temple on Saturday morning, the chief minister instructed, "If there are any obstacles in resolving an individual's issue, they should be identified and swiftly addressed. If any case is intentionally left unresolved at any level, the accountability of the responsible officials should be ensured." UP Assembly bypolls: 149 candidates file nominations for Nov 13 elections

Seventy-eight candidates filed their nomination papers for the Uttar Pradesh assembly bypolls on Friday, taking the total number of contestants from the nine seats to 149. Friday was the last day for filing nomination papers. According to the Election Commission (EC), scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on October 28 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 30. Voting will be held on November 13 and counting of votes on November 23. The EC on October 15 announced the bypolls on nine seats of the UP assembly, leaving out Milkipur (Ayodhya) due to a court case. The seats where bypolls will be held are Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Majhawan (Mirzapur), Sishamau (Kanpur city), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj) and Kundarki (Moradabad). SC rejects plea alleging contempt of demolition order by three states

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea alleging contempt of its order on demolition of properties by the authorities in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A bench headed by Justice B R Gavai and comprising Justices P K Mishra and K V Viswanathan said it was not inclined to entertain the plea filed by the petitioner who was not directly or indirectly related to the alleged act. "We don't want to open a pandora box," said the bench. The court said it will hear those affected by the demolition of properties. The petitioner alleged that authorities in Haridwar, Jaipur and Kanpur had demolished properties in contempt of the apex court's order which had said that demolitions would not be carried out without its permission. The top court had earlier reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions raising the plea that properties, including those belonging to persons accused of crimes, were being demolished in several states. Arguments on plea for Gyanvapi survey completed, next hearing on Oct 25

Arguments were completed on Saturday before a court here on the application seeking a survey through excavation in the entire Gyanvapi complex and an order is likely on the matter on October 25, a lawyer for the Hindu side said here. The advocates of the Muslim side and the Waqf Board, who are opposing the survey, completed their arguments before Civil Judge Senior Division Jugal Kishore Shambhu, Madan Mohan Yadav, who represents the Hindu said, said. After hearing the arguments, the court has fixed October 25 as the date of the next hearing, when it may give its order on this matter, Yadav said. On October 16, the Hindu side had referred to the expertise of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in excavations to buttress its plea to carry out excavations in the Gyanvapi complex.
