Vasundhara Raje

Vasundhara Raje is a veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and was the Chief Minister of Rajasthan for two terms -- from 2003 to 2008 and from 2013 to 2018. She is a National Vice-President of the BJP since January 10, 2019. At present, she is a Member of the Rajasthan Assembly from Jhalrapatan constituency.

Raje followed the footsteps of her mother, Vijaya Raje Scindia, to the BJP. She won her first election from the Dholpur Assembly constituency in 1985. She married Maharaj Rana Hemant Singh, of the royal Dholpur family, on 17 November 1972, but the couple separated a year later. She was a Cabinet minister is the National Democratic Alliance government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the Centre.

She has been involved in controversies now and then. The Dholpur royal was alleged to have helped absconding businessman Lalit Modi control the Rajasthan cricket board despite being banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through biased legislation.

In 2015, the Congress alleged that Vasundhara's son Dushyant Singh had illegally converted Dholpur Palace into a hotel. Lalit Modi was said to have invested in the project.

On January 10, 2019, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) appointed former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje, as one of the party's national vice-presidents. Raje's appointment, bringing in the powerful state leader into the national politics, came a month after she was defeated in the Rajasthan Assembly elections by the Congress.
