The total automobile retail sales in India registered an on-year growth of 9.55 per cent to a record 25,31,067 units in May despite fuel-price revision, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations said on Monday. The cumulative automobile retail sales in India stood at 23,10,451 units in the same month last year. The retail sales performance reflects all-time best May for three-wheelers, passenger vehicles and tractors -- a strong outcome for what is seasonally a lean month. Dealers reported a visible rise in enquiries for fuel-efficient and alternative-powertrain options, reflected in the two-wheeler EV share climbing to 9.25 per cent from 6.11 per cent a year ago. TVS Motor Company on Monday reported 31 per cent growth in sales in May 2026 at 5,66,585 units. In the year-ago period the sales stood at 4,31,275 units, TVS Motor Company said in a statement. The company claimed that last month, it recorded its highest ever monthly sales. The two-wheeler sales registered 31 per cent growth at 5,43,111 units last month as against 4,16,166 units in May 2025. Meanwhile, domestic two-wheelers registered 24 per cent growth from 3,09,287 units sold in May last year to 3,84,565 units in the month under review. Motorcycle sales registered 30 per cent growth, increasing from 2,11,505 units in May last year to 2,73,802 units last month. Scooter sales grew 32 per cent, from 166,749 units in May last year to 220,740 units in May 2026. Bajaj Auto Ltd on Monday reported a 20 per cent on-year growth in total vehicle sales, including exports, at 4,61,257 units in May. The Pune-based auto maker had a total vehicle sales of 3,84,621 units in May 2025, as per a company statement. Total domestic sales for the reporting month stood at 2,48,031 vehicles, a growth of 10 per cent year-on-year, while exports spiked 34 per cent at 2,13,226 units from 1,58,888 vehicles in May 2025, Bajaj Auto said. Total two-wheeler sales stood at 3,93,204 units in the previous month, up 18 per cent from 3,32,370 units in May 2025, the company said. Domestic two-wheeler sales were seen at 2,09,528 units, growing 9 per cent year-on-year, and two-wheeler exports stood at 1,83,676 units for the previous month, a growth of 30 per cent year-on-year, Bajaj Auto said. The total commercial vehicle sales grew 30 per cent year-on-year at 68,053 units in the previous month, the company said.
Maruti Suzuki India on Monday reported its highest-ever monthly sales, with total dispatches rising 34.76 per cent year-on-year to a record 242,688 units in May. The company had sold a total of 180,077 units in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India said. Domestic sales also reached an all-time high of 193,535 units in May 2026 compared to 138,690 units in the year-ago month. Sales to other OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) stood at 7,239 units in May. Sales of min cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, stood at 16,275 units last month compared to 6,776 units in May 2025. JSW MG Motor India on Monday reported sales of 6,048 units in May 2026. The company did not provide comparable year-on-year figures for May, 2025. Retail sales of vehicles across categories in India in 2025-26 grew by 13.3 per cent at a record 2,96,71,064 units as compared to 2,61,87,255 units in the previous fiscal, with GST 2.0 helping overcome a subdued start to the year, Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations said on Monday. JSW MG Motor India on Wednesday reported a 19 per cent year-on-year rise in dispatches to dealers at 6,528 units in March. The wholesales for March reflected sustained momentum across its internal combustion engine (ICE) and new energy vehicle (NEV) portfolios, JSW MG Motor India said in a statement. The company said it will hike prices on the MG SELECT portfolio by up to 7 per cent, effective April 1, 2026, including flagship models such as the MG Cyberster and MG M9. Already, the company has announced a price increase of up to 2 per cent across its MG portfolio, effective April 1, 2026.

Hero MotoCorp on Friday said its dispatches to dealers declined 43 per cent to 3,05,406 units in April hit by a three-day production pause at four plants. The company dispatched 5,33,585 units to dealers in April last year. Domestic sales declined to 288,524 units last month, down from 5,13,296 units in April last year. Exports stood at 16,882 units last month as against 20,289 units in the year-ago period. The company said it recorded 5.05 lakh registrations for its internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheelers in April. The company has maintained a consistent month-on-month increase in retail market share throughout 2025, it added. As part of a planned operational strategy, the company implemented a temporary production halt from April 17-19 at its Dharuhera, Gurugram, Haridwar, and Neemrana facilities to facilitate supply chain alignment and conduct scheduled maintenance and infrastructure enhancements; normalisation is anticipated in May, it said.
Tata Motors Ltd on Thursday reported a 6.1 per cent decline in overall sales to 72,753 units in April 2025. The company posted the total sales at 77,521 units during April 2024. Total domestic sales were down 7 per cent to 70,963 units last month as compared to 76,399 units in April 2024, Tata Motors said in a regulatory filing. Total passenger vehicle (PV) sales, including EVs, were down 5 per cent at 45,532 units over 47,983 units in the year-ago period, it added. Sales of PVs, including EVs, in the domestic market were down 6 per cent at 45,199 units against 47,883 units in the corresponding month last year. The company said its total commercial vehicle (CV) sales last month were at 27,221 units from 29,538 units in April 2024, down 8 per cent.
