J-K: 2 terrorists, active accomplice killed in encounter

Two terrorists, their active accomplice and a police constable were killed during an encounter in Syed Ali Akbar area of Fateh Kadal on Wednesday. The operation was jointly conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).On a specific input of terrorists' presence in the area, a cordon and search operation was laid by the security forces during which two police and CRPF personnel received injuries. The civilians were evacuated from the area.While search operation was going on at the target location, terrorists made indiscriminate firing from inside. Blast in Crimea college a terrorist attack, says Russian investigative committee

A deadly blast rocked the polytechic college in Kerch, Crimea, on Wednesday leaving at least 18 people dead and 50 more injured, according to the Crimean health ministry. The Russian National Anti-terrorism Committee (NAC) said that an unidentified explosive device had been detonated in the college.The Russian Investigative Committee has classified the blast as a terrorist attack. However, initial examination of bodies of those killed in Crimean college showed they died from gunshot wounds.According to Crimea head Sergey Aksyonov, the organizer of the terrorist attack on the college killed himself. Sri Lanka on Wednesday promised to revoke a rogue bikini ban raising eyebrows at a popular seaside resort, as the authorities urged tourists to wear what they want at the beach. The signs erected by local police at Habaraduwa Beach, about 130 kilometres south of the capital Colombo, depicted a pair of western women in bikinis crossed out with a red "X". TN CM seeks PM's help to free fishermen from Lankan custody

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention to secure the release of eight fishermen from the state slapped with a hefty fine of Rs 60 lakh Sri Lankan rupees each on charges of poaching fish. Urging Modi to direct the Ministry of External Affairs to register "our strong protest at the highest level in Sri Lanka," the chief minister wanted India to put forth an effective defence in Lankan courts and secure the release of the fishermen sans the fine (approximately Rs 26 lakh per head) or jail term. 2 women militants surrender in B'desh

Two suspected militants, including a woman, were killed and two female university students, believed to be involved in Bangladesh's deadliest terrorist attack in 2016, surrendered on Wednesday, bringing an end to a 40-hour long tight security clampdown in Narsingdi near the national capital. Russia: Explosive kills 13, injures dozens in Crimea

Russian officials said an explosive device killed at least 13 people and injured at least 50 others Wednesday at a vocational college in Crimea and called it a possible terrorist attack. At least 10 killed in blast at Crimea college: official

At least 10 people were killed Wednesday in an explosion at a technical college in the city of Kerch on the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, a Russian anti-terror committee representative said. 2 outfits call for shutdown on Sabari issue;security tightened

The Kerala government on Wednesday tightened security across the state by deploying more police personnel following escalating protests by a section of Lord Ayyappa devotees and a hartal called by Hindu fringe outfits against the decision to allow entry of women in Sabarimala temple. Militants should not expect bouquets if they fire bullets: J-K Governor Satya Pal Malik

Talking tough on terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has said militants don't have "much of a shelf life" with more than 40 being killed since August and should not expect bouquets if they fire bullets. Two policemen, including an officer, were injured in a grenade attack by militants on a police party in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said. Militants hurled a grenade on a police party at a naka in Pattan area of the district this afternoon, a police official said. Security forces allegedly thrashed some media personnel who were covering an encounter with militants in the city here, a journalist present at the spot said Wednesday. Though the police refused to comment on the alleged incident, a PTI photojournalist present there gave a first-hand account. There were several media personnel who were covering the encounter when some police personnel asked them to leave, he said. However, the media personnel stood their ground, leading to an altercation between 3-4 scribes and police, following which they allegedly thrashed three journalists. The Kashmir Press Club (KPC) condemned the incident, alleging that some of the journalists were injured in the security forces action.
