Army personnel today deactivated through controlled explosion two bombs of World War II period in West Bengal's Nadia district, district officials said. The two bombs were found at Hanskhalia area of the district last month when workers were digging a pond. The army personnel put the two bombs inside a 20 feet deep well and deactivated them through controlled explosion, the officials added.
Militants tonight shot at and critically injured a special police officer working in the Railway Police in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said. "Militants shot at and critically injured SPO Aqib Wagay, son of Abdul Ahad Wagay, near Railway Track at Puchal village in Pulwama," a police spokesman said. He said the cop received serious bullet injuries in both the legs. Aqib Wagay was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, he added. Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman said.
A gunman who killed two policewomen and seriously injured a third officer in the Belgian city of Liege today "clearly" targeted the police, the head of the local force said. Security forces recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash and live cartridges during a search operation in Palamau district today, a senior police officer said. Superintendent of Police, Indrajeet Mahatha said the security forces launched a search operation in the jungle under the jurisdiction of Chatarpur police station after yesterday's encounter in which three Naxals were killed and two others surrendered. In course of the search operation the security forces seized Rs 1,05,640 in cash stuffed in a bag, besides live cartridges, the SP said. The Union Home ministry has directed a quick re-location of two large CRPF establishments, that would serve about 8,000 personnel, from their existing base in Karnataka's Taralu to Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh, the home district of home minister Rajnath Singh. The ministry, on May 17, issued orders to the Central Reserve Police Force to transfer the range headquarters and group centre of the force from their existing locations in the south Indian state to two hired locations in the Uttar Pradesh district under the Varanasi division. An order accessed by PTI said that the centres would initially function from two hired buildings in Varanasi (Range Headquarters 4,000 sq feet) and Mughal Sarai (Group Centre 5,7840 sq feet). They would shift to new locations in Chandauli district once the required land is acquired by the CRPF.
