4 armed robbers loot jewellery, cash worth Rs 35 lakhs from shop

Four armed robbers looted jewellery and cash worth about Rs 35 lakh from a jewellery shop in Delhi's Rohini area today, police said. The incident took place around 2.30 PM and the robbers were captured on CCTV cameras, a police officer said. Complainant Anshul Gupta told police that he was sitting in his shop at Begumpur, Rohini Sector 24, when the four armed robbers looted cash and jewellery worth about Rs 35-40 lakh by threatening him and his staff. A case has been registered and efforts were being made to identify and arrest the robbers, the officer said.

Man who entered bank with 'fake bomb' arrested by police

A man, who, in an attempt to loot HDFC bank's Chandpur branch in Bijnor district, had entered the bank with a fake bomb strapped to a belt on his waist, was subdued by the bank's staff and handed over to the police on Thursday.Faced with financial challenges, the accused, identified as Rohtash, resorted to the desperate act as he had no clue of what else to do.According to police officials, Rohtash entered the bank in the afternoon, threatening to blow it up to smithereens if he was not handed over Rs 5 lakhs. However, the bank manager, along with the other members of the staff, called his bluff and managed to subdue him.Police officials in charge of the case have deemed the man to be 'mentally unstable'.Further investigations are underway.

Northern Army Commander Lt General Anbu reviews security situation in Kashmir

Northern Army Commander Lt General D Anbu today reviewed security situation in Kashmir in the wake of recent operations in which 13 militants were killed. "Lt Gen Anbu visited Kashmir today to review the prevailing security situation in the wake of recent counter-terrorist operations in South Kashmir which led to elimination of 13 terrorists," an army official said. Officers responding to reports of a man threatening people with a gun fatally shot a man carrying a metal pipe, mistaking it for a firearm, the New York Police Department said. A tense crowd gathered after Saheed Vassell, 34, was killed around 5 pm yesterday in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. Scotland Yard today expanded the net of a specialist counter-terrorism tactic for the streets of London, which involves the deployment of specially-trained visible as well as plainclothes' officers. Project Servator, a policing tactic used to deter, detect and disrupt terrorism and a range of other criminality, has been piloted in parts of the British capital since November 2016 and will be operating across the whole city. Four IS militants killed in Afghan airstrike

Four Islamic State (IS) militants have been killed in an airstrike operation launched by Afghan forces in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, according to local officials on Thursday.As per a statement from the provincial government's media office, the airstrike was conducted in Payin area near Haska Meyna district of Nangarhar province at around 11 am (local time) on Tuesday, Khaama Press reported.During the operation, weapons, ammunition and vehicles belonging to the IS were destroyed as well, the statement added.The IS and other terrorist organisations are yet to react to the latest development.The latest airstrike comes as counter-terrorism ground operations are being conducted by Afghan and US forces in Afghanistan against the IS, Taliban and other militant groups in Nangarhar province.The US forces conduct airstrikes by using unmanned aerial vehicles in the province to clamp down the militants.

Petrol bomb hurled at post office in Salem

A petrol bomb was hurled at the South Post Office here by miscreants today, police said. A worker, who came to clean the office premises, noticed the broken bottle pieces and informed the police. Investigations revealed that the attack on the post office might have taken place late last night or early this morning, police said. No damage was caused in the incident, police added. The police are going through the CCTV footage to identify the miscreants.

2 Maoists held in Odisha

Two Maoist militia members were captured by BSF personnel from Nuagurha area of Odisha's Malkangiri district, BSF sources said today. Acting on a specific information, a BSF team carried out a search operation and apprehended the duo near village Nuagurha yesterday. During questioning, the two gave their identity as Gourang Hantal and Budu Khara, both aged around 31 years and residents of Ghanabeda under the jurisdiction of Chitrakonda police station, they said. The two confessed that they had helped the red rebels in organising meetings and providing them logistic support. The apprehended militia members have been handed over to the police and were arrested.

French, Malian troops kill 30 jihadists: France

Thirty jihadists were killed in a clash with French and Malian troops near Mali's border with Niger, the French military said today. The fight, involving a group of about 60 jihadists, took place on Sunday in the Akabar area, spokesman Colonel Patrik Steiger said, adding that Malian forces sustained "losses" but there were no French casualties. French commandos and Malian forces began a "reconnaissance and control operation" in the Akabar region on March 28, working in liaison with the Nigerien army and a local self-defence group, Steiger said. "On April 1, they were confronted by an ATG [armed terrorist group] estimated to number 60 individuals, around 90 kilometres (55 miles) south of Menaka and three kilometres from the Nigerien border," he said. Rather was critically injured during clashes between protestors and security forces at Kangan on Monday following the death of four civilians in cross-firing between militants and security personnel in Shopian and Anantnag districts on Sunday. Son abducted by militants in J-K, father escapes with bullet injuries

Suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants abducted a man and his son from Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, with the former escaping with bullet injuries, an official said. This is the second case of kidnapping in the district's Hajin area in the past 48 hours. The incident took place around 11:45 pm yesterday, a police spokesman said. "Terrorists believed to be affiliated with banned terror organisation LeT, barged into the house of Abdul Gaffar Bhat at Hajin in Bandipora and started to beat up people," he said. He said the suspected militants abducted Abdul and his son Manzoor Ahmad Bhat. "However, Abdul escaped in spite being fired upon and suffering injuries," the spokesman said. He has been hospitalised. Father-daughter duo injured in Pak shelling in Rajouri

A man and his daughter were injured after Pakistani troops fired mortar bombs at forward posts and targeted civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, officials said today.
