Sunny morning in Delhi, light rains towards afternoon possible

It was a sunny morning in the national capital, with the minimum temperature settling two notches above normal. Humidity level was recorded at 53 per cent. "The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.30 AM at 23 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal," a MeT official said. The Met office has forecast overcast skies for Thursday afternoon along with the possibility of light rains and thundershowers. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 33 and 18 degrees Celsius respectively," the weatherman said. On Wednesday, light rains in some parts of the city brought the mercury down. The maximum temperature settled at 29.5 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal.

Light rains bring mercury down in Delhi

It was a pleasant day in the national capital as light rains in some parts of the city brought the mercury down. The maximum temperature settled at 29.5 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.0 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal, a Met department official said. The humidity oscillated between 82 and 54 per cent. The Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, received 1 mm rains till 8.30 am after which it recorded traces of rainfall till 5.30 pm. Areas under Palam, Lodhi, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 1.8, 1.4, 0.2 and 2.5 mm rains respectively till 8.30 AM, the official said. Palam, Ridge and Ayanagar recorded 0.8, 0.8 and 0.2 mm rainfall respectively between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Lodhi Road recorded traces of rainfall during the same period, the official said. Temperature further dips in HP after rains

Temperatures decreased by several notches in Himachal Pradesh after rains on the second consecutive day Wednesday, the Meteorological (MeT) Department said. Several parts of the state, including Dalhousie 42 mm, Kangra 42 mm, Jawali 26 mm, Manali 17 mm, Kufri 16 mm and Shimla 13 mm, witnessed light to moderate rains, it said. As a result, the minimum temperatures decreased by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, whereas the maximum temperatures decreased by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Una at 25.4 degrees Celsius, it said, adding that the lowest temperature was recorded in tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong at 1.8 degrees Celsius.

Heat intensifies in Odisha, govt advances summer vacations for educational institutions

Heatwave sweeping across Odisha intensified Tuesday, with Bhubaneswar being the hottest place at 43.7 degrees Celsius, prompting the state government to advance the summer vacation for all educational institutions. The mercury in neighbouring Cuttack city stood at 41.1 degrees Celsius, up from 39 degrees Celsius on Monday. The maximum temperature in the state capital jumped four notches from the previous day. On Monday, the city recorded a high of 39.6 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the temperature soared above 40 degrees Celsius in at least eight places in the state, the Meteorological centre here said. Cloudy skies, light rains and gusty winds gave some respite to Delhiities Tuesday from the scorching heat. The maximum temperature was recorded at 30.7 degrees Celsius, six notches above the normal, while the minimum settled at 20.5 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, the Meteorological (MeT) office said. However, this was nearly 10 degrees lesser than what was recorded Monday. Several parts of the city received light rains and witnessed gusty winds at different intervals of the day. The MeT Department attributed the change in the temperatures to a western disturbance that impacted several parts of north India, including Delhi. Maximum temp dips in HP after light rains

Maximum temperatures decreased by six to seven degrees Celsius in Himachal Pradesh after light rains in several parts of the state Tuesday, the Meteorological (MeT) Department said. Several parts of the state, including Shimla 6 mm, Kufri 11 mm, Manali 7 mm and Dalhousie 3 mm, witnessed light rains Tuesday, it added. The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Una at 32.3 degrees Celsius. However, there was change in the minimum temperatures, it said, adding that the lowest temperature was recorded in tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong at 4 degrees Celsius. Summer vacation for educational institutions in Odisha from Apr 18 due to heatwave conditions

The Odisha government Tuesday announced summer vacations for all educational institutions in the state from April 18 in view of the prevailing heatwave. "The state government has decided to prepone the summer vacation in schools and other educational institutions in view of the prevailing heatwave condition," Special Relief Commissioner B P Sethi said. Summer vacation in schools was earlier scheduled to start from May 6, he said. On Monday, as many as 12 places in the state recorded maximum temperatures of above 40 degrees Celsius. The coal town of Talcher was the hottest at 43.8 degrees Celsius. Several parts of the state, particularly the western districts, are witnessing heatwave conditions since the last couple of days. The regional meteorological office has said that no major change in day temperatures across the state is likely in the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorm and light rainfall in Delhi and NCR areas during the next two hours. According to the nowcast issued by IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre here, several parts of the Delhi-NCR, including Noida and Gurgaon, are likely to witness thunderstorm, light rainfall and gusty winds with a speed of up to 50kmph. UP: Rain, thunderstorm likely in the next one hour, says IMD
