Pleasant morning in Delhi, minimum temperature at 16 deg C

It was a pleasant morning in the national capital on Thursday as the minimum temperature settled at 16 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year. Humidity was recorded at 92 per cent, a meteorological department official said. The weatherman said the maximum temperature on Thursday is likely to settle at 31 degrees Celsius and has predicted partly cloudy sky along with haze and smoke with the possibility of mist on Friday morning. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 31.1 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 16 degrees Celsius.

NE monsoon to hit coastal TN, Pondy during next 24 hrs: IMD

The north east monsoon will hit coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 24 hours before gradually extending to other parts of the region, regional weather office here said Wednesday. With a month's delay in arrival of the three-month-long (October to December) monsoon, the met department said the next two months would be crucial. Last month, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast 12 per cent surplus rainfall for Tamil Nadu from the north east monsoon (NEM). Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, S Balachandran said coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry would first experience north east monsoon in the next 24 hours. "It would gradually extend to rest of Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas of south Karnataka and Kerala during the subsequent days," he said. Conditions favourable for onset of NE monsoon in TN,Pondy: Met

Conditions are favourable for the onset of north east monsoon in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the next two days, the regional weather office said Tuesday. While the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry would receive rains in the next 24 hours, they would gradually expand to the other parts, Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, S Balachandran told reporters here. "Favourable conditions for the onset of north east monsoon in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the next two days persist," he said. Tamil Nadu is dependent on the crucial north east monsoon as it brings the bulk of the annual rainfall in the state. Balachandran said there would be light rains in some areas in the city and its suburbs in the next 24 hours. Further, Ennore, Kelambakkam, Mahabalipuram and Chennai recorded one cm each rainfall in the last 24 hours, he added.

Delhi records lowest day temperature of season so far

Overcast skies prevailed in the national capital Friday with the maximum temperature plunging at 30.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal and the lowest of the season so far. The minimum temperature was recorded at 15.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, said a Meteorological (MeT) department official. The humidity oscillated between 94 and 38 per cent. The Met office has forecast partly cloudy skies for Saturday as well along with mist in the morning. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 31 and 16 degrees Celsius respectively," it said. Southwest Monsoon to completely withdraw from country by Oct 20

The Southwest Monsoon will most likely withdraw completely from the country on October 20, the India Meteorological Department said Friday. The Southwest Monsoon officially starts on June 1 and ends on September 30. Its withdrawal starts from western Rajasthan from September 1. The official withdrawal date for the monsoon is September 30. However, monsoon continues to linger on in parts of the country. It takes more than a fortnight for the monsoon to completely withdraw from the country. Rain, snowfall likely in Himachal Pradesh this week

The meteorological department has predicted rains in parts of Himachal Pradesh and snowfall at the higher reaches this week, even as the weather remained dry in the state since Saturday. Rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, parts of Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts on October 17 and 18, a weather department official said. Thundershowers may occur in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, parts of Solan, Sirmaur and Chamba districts from October 17 to October 20, Shimla MeT centre director Manmohan Singh said . Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and higher areas of Kullu and Mandi districts may witness snowfall from October 16 to 20, he said. 1 killed, 10 injured as Cyclone Titli moves northeastward

Cyclonic storm Titli left a trail of destruction in two districts of West Bengal on Friday, killing one person and injuring 10 others, even as it weakened into a deep depression while moving northeastward. The meteorological department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday. Paschim Medinipur and neighbouring Jhargram districts in West Bengal have been witnessing incessant rain since Thursday night. A 35-year-old security guard was killed when a 12-foot factory wall collapsed on him at Kharagpur in Paschim Medinipur district. Ten others were injured in various rain-related incidents, District Magistrate P Mohan Gandhi said.
