Enhanced rainfall activity likely over coastal Odisha: IMD

A low-pressure area is likely to form over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours, due to which enhanced rainfall activity is likely to occur over coastal Odisha during the night of Sunday to Tuesday.As per a special bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department on Sunday, a message has been sent across to all collectors in this regard, under which it has been clearly stated to closely monitor the situation and take necessary steps.Furthermore, fishermen have been advised to not venture into the deep sea of West Central and North Bay of Bengal area on Monday and Tuesday, and those who are there have been advised to return by tonight. No fishing trawlers or boats are allowed to leave for fishing in the sea.Odisha government has also directed all concerned deputy directors of fisheries and coastal districts fishery officers to ensure cent percent return of those fishing boats and vessels which had left for sea earlier by today immediately ...

Delhi records lowest day temperature of season so far

Overcast skies prevailed in the national capital Friday with the maximum temperature plunging at 30.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal and the lowest of the season so far. The minimum temperature was recorded at 15.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average, said a Meteorological (MeT) department official. The humidity oscillated between 94 and 38 per cent. The Met office has forecast partly cloudy skies for Saturday as well along with mist in the morning. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 31 and 16 degrees Celsius respectively," it said. On Thursday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 32.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at 15.2 degrees Celsius.

Southwest Monsoon to completely withdraw from country by Oct 20

The Southwest Monsoon will most likely withdraw completely from the country on October 20, the India Meteorological Department said Friday. The Southwest Monsoon officially starts on June 1 and ends on September 30. Its withdrawal starts from western Rajasthan from September 1. The official withdrawal date for the monsoon is September 30. However, monsoon continues to linger on in parts of the country. It takes more than a fortnight for the monsoon to completely withdraw from the country. What precedes Southwest Monsoon is the Northeast Monsoon that gives rain to several parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry. "Southwest Monsoon has fully not withdrawn from the country. Rain, snowfall likely in Himachal Pradesh this week

The meteorological department has predicted rains in parts of Himachal Pradesh and snowfall at the higher reaches this week, even as the weather remained dry in the state since Saturday. Rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, parts of Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts on October 17 and 18, a weather department official said. Thundershowers may occur in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, parts of Solan, Sirmaur and Chamba districts from October 17 to October 20, Shimla MeT centre director Manmohan Singh said . Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and higher areas of Kullu and Mandi districts may witness snowfall from October 16 to 20, he said. The weather remained dry in the state since Saturday, the weatherman said, adding there was no appreciable change in minimum and maximum temperatures. 1 killed, 10 injured as Cyclone Titli moves northeastward

Cyclonic storm Titli left a trail of destruction in two districts of West Bengal on Friday, killing one person and injuring 10 others, even as it weakened into a deep depression while moving northeastward. The meteorological department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday. Paschim Medinipur and neighbouring Jhargram districts in West Bengal have been witnessing incessant rain since Thursday night. A 35-year-old security guard was killed when a 12-foot factory wall collapsed on him at Kharagpur in Paschim Medinipur district. Ten others were injured in various rain-related incidents, District Magistrate P Mohan Gandhi said. In neighbouring Jhargram too, several mud houses and Durga Puja pandals collapsed owing to cyclone Titli, officials said. The meteorological department on Friday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday as the cyclonic storm 'Titli', which has weakened into a deep depression, moved towards northeast. The storm system is very likely to further lose steam and turn into a depression as it moves through Odisha and enter the Gangetic West Bengal after recurving northeastwards following landfall at Gopalpur in Ganjam district of Odisha, the weatherman said. Fresh snowfall, rains in Himachal Pradesh

The minimum and maximum temperatures dropped marginally as heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh. According to the MeT Department here, Keylong recorded the lowest temperature in the state at -0.1 degrees Celsius. Lahaul-Spiti district of the state received fresh snowfall. In the past 24 hours, 38 mm of rainfall was recorded at Naina Devi followed by 29 mm in Hamirpur, 25 mm in Dalhousie, 22 mm in Dharamshala, 21 mm in Saloni, 19 mm in Berthin, 16 mm in Chamba, 15 mm in Gohar, 13 mm in Una, 12 mm each in Banjar, Aghar and Bhoranj, 11 mm each in Rohru and Bijahi and 10 mm in Baldwara.

Heavy snowfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh

Few districts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed heavy snowfall and rains on Thursday affecting normal life.The Chanshal peak in Shimla district, Bharmaur and Pangi in Chamba district, Rohtang in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti district among others witnessed snowfall and rains.Local administration has restricted vehicle movement beyond Gulaba barrier at Rohtang Pass and adjoining areas. Keylong, Stingri, Baralacha, Kunzum and Kaza areas in Lahaul-Spiti district received fresh snowfall till Thursday afternoon.The Border Road Organisation has issued advisories not to visit the region.Meanwhile, Member of Parliament from Mandi Ram Swaroop Sharma was also stuck in Keylong region due to snowfall. He reached Manali with the help of BRO rescue team through the Rohtang tunnel.Between September 21 and September 24, over 5000 people got stuck in Lahaul-Spiti district and they were later rescued during an operation which went on for over five days.
