Key Cabinet announcements on agriculture, telecom and power sectors

Key Cabinet decisions: The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal for the auction of 2,251.25 megahertz of spectrum worth Rs 3.92 trillion at the base price. The telecom ministry plans to issue a notice to invite bids in December and hold the spectrum auction by March, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said. It has also approved a subsidy of Rs 3,500 crore to sugar mills for the export of 60 lakh tonnes of sweetener during the ongoing marketing year 2020-21 as part of its efforts to help them clear outstanding dues to sugarcane farmers. JEE Main 2021: Some important announcements by govt that you should know

The JEE-Mains exam for admission to engineering colleges will be held four times a year starting 2021 to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced on Wednesday. The first edition of the exam will be held from February 23 to 26, followed by rounds in March, April and May.

Power, jobs & border security: Modi on Rs 1.5-trn Kutch hybrid energy park

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Dhordo in Kutch, Gujarat on December 15 and laid the foundation stone of several development projects in the state, including a hybrid renewable energy park. The Hybrid Renewable Energy Park near Vighakot village in the district of Kutch in Gujarat will be the country's largest renewable energy generation park. It will lead to the generation of renewable energy to the tune of 30 GW. Spread over 72,600 hectares of land, the park will have a dedicated hybrid park zone for wind and solar energy storage, as well as an exclusive zone for wind park activities.

India's cold storage and vaccination plan against Covid: Key things to know

The Union health ministry has said 29,000 cold chain points, 240 walk-in coolers, 70 walk-in freezers, 45,000 ice-lined refrigerators, 41,000 deep freezers and 300 solar refrigerators will be used for Covid-19 vaccine storage. Providing the details about cold-chain management at a press conference, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said guidelines for estimation of electrical and non-electrical cold chain equipment and their strengthening have been issued to states by the Centre.
