Chennai-returned villagers in WB's Purulia isolate themselves on treehouses

Purulia (West Bengal), Mar 29 (ANI): Seven residents of Vangidi village in Balarampur area of West Bengal's Purulia, who returned from Chennai amid coronavirus pandemic, found a novel way to isolate themselves after doctor advised them home quarantine for 14 days. Since the Chennai-returned labourers didn't have separate room in their houses, they decided to stay on tree where platforms were already made for observing elephants which are known for attacking the village.

Protection Force distributes food to the needy in Patna

Patna (Bihar), Mar 29 (ANI): Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel distributed food to the needy people in Patna amidst the corona lockdown in the country. Senior Commandant of RPF, SKS Rathore said, "Food is being prepared at IRCTC kitchens and our personnel are distributing it to poor." He further added that the food is being distributed following social distancing norms and the people are also being guided to follow the same.

UP villagers face discrimination as their native place is named 'Corona'

Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 29 (ANI): Residents of Sitapur's small village 'Corona' are facing discrimination due to the peculiar name of their village. Ever since the outbreak of coronavirus, the residents are facing challenges. Rajan, a local said, "When we tell people we are from Corona, they avoid us. They don't understand that it's a village, not someone infected with virus." The cases of coronavirus are constantly mounting in India despite several precautionary steps of centre and state governments.

Police blocks roads leading to border areas to prevent mass exodus

New Delhi, Mar 29(ANI): Delhi Police on March 29 blocked the roads going towards Anand Vihar and nearby locations as a precautionary measure to avoid COVID-19 spread. On March 28, daily wage workers thronged the Anand Vihar Bus depot to board the buses to their respective cities/villages. Post Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's request and announcement of the arrangements, the daily wage workers gathered at the depot in huge numbers. Because of which, social distancing and all precautionary measures for COVID-19 went for a toss.

Indian Railways operated 1.25 lakh wagons for transporting essential commodities: Govt

New Delhi, Mar 29(ANI): Union Health Ministry, Joint Secretary, Lav Agarwal informed that under Indian Railways, around 1.25 lakh wagons have been operated in the last 5 days. These wagons were operated for the transportation of essential commodities, such as food grains, sugar, salt, coal, petroleum, etc. The Joint Secretary further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set up a dedicated fund - PM CARES- for COVID-19 through which philanthropics and citizens of the country can extend their support towards this effort.

Health Ministry confirms 106 new positive cases and 6 deaths

New Delhi, Mar 29(ANI): Union Health Ministry, Joint Secreatry, Lav Agarwal confirmed 979 coronavirus cases in the country including 25 deaths so far. He said that in the last 24 hours the country has reported 106 new positive cases and 6 deaths. Lav Agarwal said, "All 6 deaths have been reported from 6 different states." Joint Secretary said that we are working towards identifying emerging hotspots and are implementing rigorous cluster containment strategy in these hotspots.

India has conducted almost 35,000 coronavirus tests so far: ICMR

New Delhi, Mar 29 (ANI): Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) scientist, Raman R. Gangakhedkar informed that India has conducted almost 35,000 tests for coronavirus so far. Speaking to media persons, R Gangakhedkar said, "Till today we have conducted 34,931 tests. Capacity utilisation in the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) network is around 30%. We have increased some labs, 113 have been made functional and 47 private labs have been given approval."

COVID-19: Puducherry Police spread awareness, distribute masks to locals

Puducherry, Mar 29 (ANI): Residents in Puducherry's rushed to local market to purchase daily necessities. People had no awareness of social distancing in the market. Police and administration reached in the locality and spread awareness about coronavirus pandemic. The administration also distributed masks to locals. A police personnel said, "Since this is Sunday, people are rushing to buy commodities. Despite sending out wide range of awareness programmes, people are not maintaining social distance. Puducherry Police has adviced them not to come in close range and maintain distance." India went under 21-days nationwide lockdown to curb COVID-19.

Hyderabad-based contractor gives shelter to labourers at his construction site

Hyderabad, Mar 29 (ANI): A contractor in Hyderabad came out as a 'messiah' for migrant labourers of his construction site. He has made temporary shelters for his migrant labourers at a construction site. A labourer from Kolkata said that he is working in Hyderabad for 2 years and he is getting food to eat. Contractor Syed Munawwar said, "If they remain healthy they can arrange food but if they get infected with COVID-19 then that would cost them more. We're taking all precautions." Administration and NGOs are making several efforts to sustain the labourers and prevent exodus of migrants from big cities. The migrants are leaving cities is huge numbers after India went under 21-days nationwide lockdown to curb coronavirus pandemic.
