Delhi govt to provide 7.5 kg wheat, rice to 72 lakh needy: CM Kejriwal

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 23 announced that Delhi government will provide 7.5 kg of wheat and rice as ration to the 72 lakh needy and they can avail the ration by showing their ration card. The ration for the poor will be available from 30 March. He added that government will also give 4,000 to 5,000 pension to elderly, widows and handicapped people.

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): In wake of COVID-19 outbreak, Delhi Police Commissioner SN Srivastava on March 23 stated that the strict action will be taken against those who will not follow the lockdown restrictions announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He said, "In wake of coronavirus outbreak, section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in Delhi. We expect that everyone will stay at home other than people related to essential services. Strict action will be taken against those who will not follow the restrictions."

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director-General Balram Bhargava on March 23 commented medication used for prevention and treatment of certain types of malaria and its effectiveness on preventing coronavirus. "Hydroxychloroquine is recommended only for a healthcare worker who is treating a COVID patient. Secondly, it's recommended only for persons staying and caring for a household positive patient. They can take that only for prophylaxis, only for prevention."

Old Delhi Railway station abandoned after passenger trains cancelled till Mar 31

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): The Old Delhi Railway station was seen empty as Indian Railways cancelled all passenger trains till 31st March in view of coronavirus pandemic. Taxis were parked outside railway station as no movement is allowed. In wake of deadly disease, no transport service is allowed on roads except 25 percent DTC buses. A taxi driver said, "We are supporting the government after the announcement of lockdown. We are following all the instructions. We will struggle together against this pandemic." Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a lockdown in the state from 6 AM today till 31st March.

Reliance to produce 100,000 face-masks per day for health workers

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Reliance announced that it is enhancing its capacity to produce 100,000 face-masks per day. A large number of personal protective equipments will also be manufactured for the nation's health workers, the statement added. Move has been taken by Reliance to equip health workers to fight coronavirus. Positive coronaviurs cases have surpassed 400 in India.

Sensex plunges 3,935 points in biggest intraday fall as India goes into lockdown

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices closed 13 per cent lower on Monday with scrips across all sectors reeling under selling pressure amid the rapidly spreading coronavirus (COVID-19). At the closing bell, the BSE SandP Sensex was down by 3,935 points or 13.15 per cent to 25,981 while the Nifty 50 tumbled by 1,135 points or 12.88 per cent to 7,610. Both Nifty 50 and Nifty bank witnessed their biggest fall in absolute terms. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in a sea of red with Nifty private bank down by 17.37 per cent, financial service by 15.52 per cent, auto by 14.17 per cent and metal by 11.21 per cent.

COVID-19: 12 lab chains registered and started functioning, informs ICMR DG

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director-General Balram Bhargava on March 23 said that to deal with the dreadful virus, "12 laboratory chains have been registered and they have started functioning. These 12 have 15,000 collection centres across the country."

COVID-19: Kerala priest arrested for conducting holy mass amid restrictions

Thrissur (Kerala), Mar 23 (ANI): Priest of Nithya Sahaya Matha Church in Thrissur's Chalakudi was arrested on March 23 by Kerala Police for conducting holy mass. There is a restriction on large gathering in state in view of coronavirus. Section 144 of CrPc has been imposed in Kasaragod and Kazhikode districts. Private vehicles can ply for now in Uttarakhand, borders to be sealed soon: CM Rawat

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Mar 23 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat informed that presently, movement of private vehicles is allowed as people are returning homes. He said, "As of now, movement of private vehicles are allowed as people are coming to their homes in Uttarakhand but we will completely seal the state borders very soon. I appeal to people to stay put wherever they are." CM Rawat announced a state-wide lockdown till March 31 after observing Janata Curfew's effects. However, essential services will continue in state.
