Panaji (Goa), Mar 23 (ANI): Goa was shut for second consecutive day after the state government extended 'Janata Curfew' for another three days to curb coronavirus pandemic. The state will remain under lockdown till March 25. The state earlier closed its restaurants and beaches till March 31 in view of deadly disease. COVID-19 has claimed 7 deaths while the number of positive cases has mounted to 415.

COVID-19: Lucknow's Ghanta Ghar sanitised after anti-CAA protesters vacate site

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 23 (ANI): Sanitisation drive is underway in Lucknow in wake of coronavirus pandemic. Municipal Corporation sprayed disinfectant on roads and public spaces. The area around Ghanta Ghar was cleaned thoroughly by corporation. The sit-in protest by women near Ghanta Ghar was called off temporarily earlier today. Lockdown has been imposed in the city in view of COVID-19 till 31st March. According to latest data by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, total number of positive coronavirus cases in the country is 415 and 7 deaths.

Sensex dives almost 3000 points as countries go for lockdowns due to COVID-19

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices dived by 9 per cent during early hours on Monday as governments and businesses adapt to prolonged quarantines during the coronavirus pandemic. The Indian rupee too dragged further to hit a fresh record low of 76.02 versus Friday's close of 75.19. At 10 am, the BSE S-P Sensex was down by 2,992 points or 10 per cent to 26,924 while the Nifty 50 edged lower by 847 points or 9.7 per cent to 7,898. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were deep in the red. Nifty private bank was down by 11.2 per cent, realty by 10.9 per cent, financial service by 10.1 per cent and auto by 9.8 per cent. Reports said the global death toll due to coronavirus exceeded over 14,000 with more than 300,000 infections.

COVID-19 outbreak: Vehicular movement halted at Delhi borders

New Delhi / Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 23 (ANI): After Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, announced sealing of the national capital's borders, barricades were seen at various parts. Barriers were placed near Ghazipur border to check movement of traffic. Police have also barricaded the movement of vehicles between Delhi and Gurugram near Kapashera. Police at Delhi-Gautam Buddha Nagar border stopped vehicles from Delhi entering into Gautam Buddha Nagar, amid lockdowns. It led to major traffic at borders. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced a lockdown in the state from 6 AM today till March 31.

Chhattisgarh CM leads wreath laying ceremony of 17 jawans killed in Naxal encounter

Sukma (Chhattisgarh), Mar 23 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel attended wreath laying ceremony of 17 security personnel who were killed in Naxal attack in Sukma. He was accompanied by state Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu. The leaders offered wreath to slain soldiers. CM Baghel also met the kin of jawans. A total of 17 security personnel of District Reserve Guards (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) lovst their lives in encounter with Naxals in Sukma on March 22.

MP police takes unique step to limit down movement of people

Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh), Mar 23 (ANI): As soon as Madhya Pradesh government announced lockdown, the police took a unique step to curb the movement of people who were needlessly wandering on the streets. They handed over a paper that carried a message. It says 'I am an enemy of the society. I will not stay at home'. The move was started to make the lockdown successful to combat coronavirus. Moradabad (UP)/ Muzaffarpur (Bihar)/ Mumbai/ Chennai/ New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): The entire country was deserted on morning of March 23. Several states have announced lockdown including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Some people are coming out to get necessities. Minor killed allegedly after rape in UP's Hamirpur

Hamirpur (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 23 (ANI): A minor girl was killed allegedly after rape in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur. Suspects are arrested by police for the rape and murder of 12-year-old. Hamirpur SP, Shlok Kumar said, "We got the information about the killing of a 12-year-old girl. We have done investigation. Few suspects are taken under custody. 5 teams are constituted for investigation of the case. A weapon of offence has been seized from the crime spot." Investigation in the case is on.

Researchers discover new drug to ease medication side effects against severe depression

New Delhi, Mar 23 (ANI): A new substance has been discovered by a team of researchers that could ease the serious side effects of the medication or the drugs taken by patients for treating severe depression. The severe form of depression can be treated with the drug 'tricyclic antidepressants', an antidepressant drug which are more effective in comparison to those used for mild and moderate depression. But along with the positive outcome in fighting severe depression, the drug comes with a downfall of having serious side effects. The side effects of the drugs can be at times so serious that people diagnosed with depression no longer prefer to take the drugs, hence leading to no treatment for the condition. Sukma naxal attack: Need to identify 15 weapons, DIG South Bastar

Bastar (Chhattisgarh), Mar 23 (ANI): While speaking to media in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on March 22, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in South Bastar Range of Chhattisgarh, Sundarraj Patilingam spoke on Sukma encounter. He said, "According to armed cadres there are around 800 naxals in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district. People queue outside shops to buy milk after 'Janata Curfew' ends

Moradabad/ Varanasi (UP), Mar 23 (ANI): Locals in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad queued up outside shops to buy milk after 'Janata Curfew' ended. They thronged to dairy in large numbers to buy milk. Moradabad is one of the 15 districts in UP where lockdown has been imposed from March 23 to March 25. While speaking to ANI, one of the buyers said, "We are standing here since an hour, we are not getting milk anywhere else nearby." Similarly in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, people are stocking daily use materials in large numbers on Mar 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged countrymen to observe 'Janata Curfew' on March 22 from 07:00 am-09:00 pm. He also requested citizens to encourage the people working in essential services.

Fire occurs at 2-storey building in HP's Kullu

Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), Mar 23 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in a two-storeyed building in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu on March 22. At least two fire tenders reached at the spot to douse the flames.
