Coronavirus outbreak: Goa suspends 'Zilla Panchayat' elections

Panaji (Goa), Mar 20 (ANI): Goa suspended 'Zilla Panchayat' elections in the view of increasing cases of coronavirus across the country. The 'Zilla Panchayat' elections will take place on March 24. "Respecting the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 'Janata Curfew' on and in the interest of wider participation of electorate in the Zilla Panchayat elections, the State Government in consultation with the SEC has decided to postpone the ZP Polling date to March 24," said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. However, the date of counting of votes will be decided soon by state election commission.

Nirbhaya case: Convicts' lawyer files fresh plea in SC few hours ahead of hanging

New Delhi, Mar 20 (ANI): Nirbhaya convicts' lawyer, AP Singh reached at the residence of Supreme Court's Registrar seeking to stay the death warrants.While talking to mediapersons, AP Singh said, "We are seeking urgent hearing and stay on death warrants. We are filing the petition in the Supreme Court, the court is open and working." The Supreme Court will hear the petition of all four death row convicts, seeking stay on execution, at 2:30 am on Friday. The execution will happen at 5:30 am on March 20.

Will file writ petition in SC against dismissal of mercy petition by President in short time: Convicts' lawyer

New Delhi, Mar 19 (ANI): The lawyer of convicts in 2012 gang rape case, AP Singh said that he will file a writ petition in Supreme Court against the urgency shown by the President in reviewing the mercy petition of a convict. He said, "Supreme Court dismissed the writ petition for mercy today. The second mercy petition of one of the convict, Pawan Gupta, was rejected today by the President of India. We will file a writ petition against the dismissal of convict's mercy petition in such a short time. We will demand a stay on their execution." The second mercy petition for Pawan Kumar was file on March 18 and it was dismissed by President Ram Nath Kovind on March 19. The convicts in Nirbhaya case are scheduled to be executed on March 20.

Court confirmed Nirbhaya's culprits will be hanged: Asha Devi

New Delhi, Mar 19 (ANI): Nirbhaya's mother, Asha Devi said that the court has confirmed that all culprits will be hanged to death on March 20 at 5:30. No community transmission in India, informs Health Ministry

New Delhi, Mar 19(ANI): Health Ministry, Joint Secretary, Lav Agarwal confirmed that there is no community transmission in India. Community transmission of COVID-19 has not started in India: ICMR

New Delhi, Mar 19(ANI): Indian Council of Medical Research's (ICMR) Director General, Balram Bhargava, informed that community spread of COVID-19 has not yet started in India. He said that a random sampling study of community transmission of around 820 samples from 50 sites was conducted. "They have come negative, though we will scale it up," added Balram Bhargava.

Coronavirus: Govt forced to arrest stamped people if they don't home quarantine themselves, says Kejriwal

New Delhi Mar 19 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 19 informed that state government is forced to arrest and lodge FIR against stamped people to whom it said to remain in home quarantine. "We have started stamping people who have been asked to remain in home quarantine upon their arrival in India. There are instances of such people fleeing home. If such persons don't keep themselves in quarantine, government will be forced to arrest them and lodge FIR against them," said Kejriwal. He added that all the restaurants in Delhi will be closed till March 31. "Eating at restaurants will be prohibited but take away of foods or delivery of food will continue," added Kejriwal.
