Sensex nosedives by 2,713 points on global cues, Yes Bank surges by 45 pc

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices extended losses in the afternoon session on Monday as the spreading coronavirus pandemic continued to spook global markets. The number of virus positive cases climbed to 110 in India with fresh reports coming from Maharashtra and Odisha. The US Federal Reserve cut interest rates to near-zero a day earlier to help shore up the world's largest economy. But the move rather scared global investors more than cheering them as it reflected fear among US policy makers about the severe impact of the virus. The BSE S-P Sensex closed 2,713 points or 7.96 per cent lower at 31,390 while the Nifty 50 crashed by 756 points or 7.6 per cent to 9,199. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the red with Nifty metal down by 8.9 per cent, private bank by 8.7 per cent, IT and realty by 8.2 per cent each and financial service by 7.9 per cent. Punjab malls, gyms, restaurants deserted after advisory on coronavirus

Ludhiana (Punjab), Mar 16 (ANI): Public spaces in Punjab are deserted amid coronavirus scare. Punjab Government has issued advisory to shut down shopping malls, gyms, restaurants etc till further notice. The government had earlier shut down all educational institutions till further notice. Punjab has one positive case of coronavirus. Cases have mounted to over 110 in India so far with 2 deaths.

They'll be hanged on Mar 20: Asha Devi after SC dismisses convict's petition seeking action against former lawyer

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): The petition filed by one of the death row convicts Mukesh in 2012 Delhi gang rape case, seeking action against his former lawyer Vrinda Grover, was ordered dismissed as withdrawn by the Supreme Court. Speaking on the development, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi said, "I have been following the law since past 7 years. I believe that I will get justice on March 20. These people (convict) don't trust the system, or the government or the President. They change and target everyone's decision. I believed that petition will be dismissed and they will be hanged on March 20." "The petition is not maintainable," Justice Mishra said and dismissed the petition. The convicts are scheduled to be executed on March 20.

Cornavirus: We should stay cautious and prepared, says Nitish Kumar

Money of Yes Bank depositors is completely safe, assures RBI Governor

Mumbai, Mar 16 (ANI): RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Yes Bank crisis assured depositors that their money is completely safe. "I would like to convey to the depositors of Yes Bank that their money is completely safe and there is nothing to worry. There is no reason for any undue worry," said Shaktikanta Das."Swift action has been taken by the RBI and Govt of India. The lifting of moratorium will be on Wednesday, March 18 at 6 pm," RBI Governor added.

COVID-19 could impact domestic, global growth: RBI

Mumbai, Mar 16 (ANI): Speaking on coronavirus pandemic, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das informed the disease could slowdown domestic as well as global growth."Effects of the pandemic could operate through a slowdown in the domestic economic growth and it would obviously be a result of synchronised slowdown in global growth and as a part of that, the growth momentum in India would also be impacted somewhat," said Shaktikanta Das. "India is not immune to this pandemic, already more than 100 cases have been reported. Efforts are being mounted by the govt on war-footing. COVID-19 could impact India directly through trade channels, in which exposure to China is relatively high," the RBI Governor added.

COVID-19: Sanitize your hands to enter this Pune temple

COVID-19: All gyms, night clubs and spas to be closed till Mar 31 in Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference in national capital on March 16. While speaking to media, he said all gyms, night clubs and spas will be shut till March 31 to prevent spread of coronavirus. Adding to it, he further said, "Any gathering with more than 50 persons excluding weddings will not be allowed. For weddings also, we request if they can be postponed then please do so."

P Chidambaram criticises Centre, says not doing enough to combat COVID-19

Coronavirus: Odisha officials request tourists to leave Puri after 1st positive case

Puri (Odisha), March 16 (ANI): 1st positive case from state of Odisha was detected on March 16.
