New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Equity indices nosedived by nearly 4.5 per cent during early hours on Monday amid the rapidly escalating global coronavirus pandemic even though the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates to near-zero a day earlier to help shore up the world's largest economy. At 10 am, the BSE S and P Sensex was down by 1,575 points or 4.62 per cent to 32,529 while the Nifty 50 cracked by 449 points or 4.51 per cent to 9,506. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the red with Nifty private bank and financial service down by 7 per cent each, realty by 6.7 per cent, metal by 5.9 per cent, and IT by 4.9 per cent. Among stocks, IndusInd Bank was the top loser after dropping by over 11 per cent at Rs 714 per share. However, Yes Bank surged by 48.14 per cent to Rs 37.85 per share.

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Italy on Sunday (local time) reported 368 deaths in the last 24 hours due to coronavirus even as the total death toll due to the deadly virus in the European country rose to 1,809. Civil Protection Department chief Angelo Borrelli, during a press conference in Rome, revealed that the total number of positive cases registered in the country reached 24,747 on Sunday, with an increase of 3,590 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours, CNN reported. Meanwhile, France's Public Health authority too reported 36 new deaths due to the deadly virus, taking the toll to 127 while the total number of cases mounted to 5,423. The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Friday declared that the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic has moved from China, where new cases reported have drastically decreased, to Europe, where most countries are seeing a climb in infections and fatalities.
Nagpur (Maharashtra), Mar 16 (ANI): The footfall decreased in parks and gardens in Ramdaspeth area of Nagpur over coronavirus concerns. According to Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Maharashtra has 32 confirmed cases of coronavirus, highest in the country. "80 Percent of people are not coming into the park because of coronavirus fear. People are taking precautions at home," a local told ANI. In India total of 110 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported so far.

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): A recent study suggests that breathing dirty air takes a heavy toll on gut bacteria, boosting risk of obesity, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders and other chronic illnesses. The study, published online in the journal Environment International, found that young adults exposed to higher levels of ozone showing less microbial diversity and more of certain species associated with obesity and disease.The study comes at a time when air quality in many U.S. cities is worsening after decades of improvement. In December, the Environmental Protection Agency downgraded the Denver metro and North Front Range regions to "serious nonattainment" status for failing to meet national ozone standards. New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Being distracted by technology during mealtimes may reduce the amount of food a person eats, nutrition scientists suggest. The findings were published in the Journal of Nutrition. When 119 young adults consumed a meal while playing a simple computer game for 15 minutes, they ate significantly less than when they ate the same meal without distractions, said lead author Carli A. Liguori. Participants' food consumption was evaluated on two separate occasions - one day when they played the game while eating and on another day when they ate without distractions. The game, called Rapid Visual Information Processing, tests users' visual sustained attention and working memory and has been used extensively by researchers in evaluating people for problems such as Alzheimer's disease and attention-deficit disorder.
