SP MLAs protest against CAA in Lucknow

Lucknow (UP), Dec 17 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) MLAs protested outside Uttar Pradesh Assembly in Lucknow on December 17. They protested against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and several other current burning issues in the nation. They complained against the government over law and order situation and rising crimes against women in the country. SP will raise all these issues in the assembly as well.

Special court hands death penalty to former Pak President Pervez Musharraf in high treason case

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): As per Pakistani Media, former Pakistani military dictator and former president Pervez Musharraf has been handed death sentence in high treason case on Dec 17. A three-member bench of the special court in Islamabad took the decision High treason trial of Musharraf for imposing the state of emergency on Nov 3, 2007, had been pending since Dec 2013. The high treason case was filed against Pervez Musharraf by the PML-N government in 2013.

Jamia protest was a conspiracy: Delhi Police

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): While speaking to media in the national capital on December 17, the Additional DCP (South East) of Delhi Police Kumar Gyanesh spoke on Jamia Millia Islamia incident. He said, "I saw it myself and some protesters were carrying wet blankets and putting them on tear gas shells to minimize their impact." "It did not seem to be spontaneous but well planned. Investigation is underway in this matter," he added. "Petrol bombs were also hurled at us by the protesters. These things do not happen on the spot, it shows that it was a conspiracy," he further stated.

Burnt body of woman found at farm in Chhattisgarh's Pendra

Pendra (Chhattisgarh), Dec 17 (ANI): A burnt body of a 35-year-old woman was found at a farm in Chhattisgarh's Pendra district on December 16. The body was found in Gaurella police station limits in Pendra. While speaking to ANI, the police official said, "The woman was murdered and then her body was burnt by the perpetrator. Equity indices open higher tracking positive global cues

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices added handsome gains during early hours on Tuesday, tracking positive sentiment in the global markets with the easing of trade worries and uncertainty on Brexit. At 10:15 am, the BSE SandP Sensex was up by 283 points to 41,222 while the Nifty 50 gained by 76 points at 12,130. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the green with Nifty IT up by 1.3 per cent, metal by 1.2 per cent and auto by 0.7 per cent. Among stocks, metal major Vedanta was the top winner with gains of 2.8 per cent at Rs 151.35 per share. Tata Steel was up by 1.9 per cent and JSW Steel by 1.5 per cent. Automakers Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Eicher Motors gained by 1.3 per cent, 1.1 per cent and 1 per cent respectively while IT major added gains of 1.6 per cent at Rs 725.25 per scrip. Father of Muzaffarpur woman, who died after being set on fire, demands justice

Patna (Bihar), Dec 17 (ANI): Father of Muzaffarpur woman, who died on Monday night after she was set on fire while resisting rape attempt earlier this month, said he wants justice for her daughter, and that the police authorities should take appropriate action against the perpetrators. The victim, who was set on fire after a failed rape attempt earlier this month, had received 95 percent burn injuries, and was shifted to Apollo Barn Hospital in Patna. The 23-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries on Monday night.

Hyderabad's MANUU students continue protest in solidarity with Jamia, AMU counterparts

Homeless move to night shelters in Delhi as chilly winters arrive

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): As temperature dipped in the national capital, the sufferers turned towards night shelters to cope with the chilly winter of Delhi. The government-supported night shelters have become heaven for homeless people. They are provided with free blankets and pillows in a night shelter near All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Cold wave intensified in Delhi after brief but heavy showers last week. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road area were PM 2.5 at 116 (Moderate category) and PM 10 at 91 (satisfactory category).
