Hyderabad, Dec 17 (ANI): The students of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad continued to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Hyderabad on December 17. They were also protesting in solidarity with the students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Jamia Millia Islamia where violent clashes with police had broken out. A large number of students participated in the protest and raised slogans against CAA. The new citizenship law will give Indian citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants who faced persecution in three neighbouring countries- Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand), Dec 17 (ANI): A 79-year-old man from Uttarakhand's Khatima tehsil has scored more than 60% in High School Examination. Dani Ram is a retired Subedar-major of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He hails from Chakarpur village in Khatima tehsil of Uttarakhand. While speaking to ANI, Dani Ram said, "As I didn't complete my Class 10, I was never promoted to Assistant Commandant. It was then that I decided to pursue further education."
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): As temperature dipped in the national capital, the sufferers turned towards night shelters to cope with the chilly winter of Delhi. The government-supported night shelters have become heaven for homeless people. They are provided with free blankets and pillows in a night shelter near All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Cold wave intensified in Delhi after brief but heavy showers last week. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road area were PM 2.5 at 116 (Moderate category) and PM 10 at 91 (satisfactory category). Higher value of AQI indicates greater level of air pollution and health concern.
Chamoli (Uttarakhand), Dec 17 (ANI): The Badrinath shrine in the hilly state of Uttarakhand has been covered in a thick sheet of snow due to heavy snowfall in the town. The entire shrine wore a thick blanket of snow as the areas of Badrinath Dham and Auli in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand received fresh snowfall on December 16. Normal life got affected following the snowfall. Vehicular movement was partially disrupted as snow covered the entire landscape.
Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Dec 17 (ANI): Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in collaboration with NGOs has rolled out an initiative "Meal for Plastic". The initiative was taken under State government's Aahaar Yojana. People can go to Aahaar Center in the city and by giving half kg of plastics, they can get meal for one time. While speaking to ANI, BMC Commissioner, Prem Chandra Chaudhary said, "This is kind of a plastic collection campaign, plus food security. There are lot of people who collect plastic and some people throw plastics which creates problem. So we thought to solve both issues with single mechanism. Now, anyone can go to any of the 11 Aahaar Centers in city and by giving half a kg of plastics, they can get a meal.
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu attended the National Safety Awards (Mines), organised by the Director General of Mines Safety and Ministry of Labour and Employment, in New Delhi on Dec 17. Addressing the event, VP Naidu said, "Recent instances of violence, especially destruction of public property, are a cause for great concern. Violence is not a solution to any problem. We must desist from obstructive and destructive activities and focus on constructive initiatives that will take our nation forward."

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Speaking on the reports of bullet injuries on protestors, DCP of South-East Delhi Chinmoy Biswal said that only tear gas was used and no bullet was fired. "Only tear gas was used by the police to disperse violent mob that was pelting stone on police, setting public property on fire. No bullet was fired, so if someone has been shot by gun, it will be investigated," said DCP South-East Delhi.
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Google has halted the rollout of Chrome 79 update on Android after reports of app-data loss. According to Engadget, users complained of losing data from third-party apps that use the WebView framework after updating to Chrome 79. While the data is intact, it is inaccessible due to the bug. It is unclear which apps are affected the most. Google is working on a fix including moving missed files or reverting to the old method.

This can contribute to the development of neurological diseases like Alzheimer's disease, adds the study, which was published in the journal - Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Researchers worked to validate a popular research method called RNA sequencing used to identify unknown neurons in the brain and sort them into various subtypes.

Srinagar (JandK), Dec 17 (ANI): Indian Army celebrated 'Vijay Diwas' in Srinagar on Dec 17. Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon paid floral tribute to the slain soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the motherland during Indo-Pak war in 1971. 'Vijay Diwas' is celebrated to commemorate India's victory in 1971 war. The war was fought for liberation of Bangladesh, then East Pakistan.
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Union Law and Justice Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad slammed Congress party for 'supporting' protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) 2019. He said Congress is trying to paint the incidents in communal colour. "Its objective is to give citizenship to persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. This Act poses no danger to citizenship of people of our country. Some are trying to flare religious tensions, it is sad Congress stands with them," said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Ravi Shankar Prasad.

New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): After Executive Council Meeting, Jamia Millia Islamia decided to recommend the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to set up a high-level committee or initiate a judicial inquiry into the incidents that took place during the students protest on December 15. "It has been decided that we would recommend the Ministry of Human Resource Development to set up a high-level committee or initiate a judicial inquiry into the matter," said registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia. "We have always encouraged students' voice and protest. As far as democratic rights are concerned, Jamia has never denied democratic rights to any student. They're welcome to voice their concerns, as long as it's peaceful and within rules and regulations," he further added.
New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): Delhi's Tis Hazari Court convicted BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar in Unnao rape-kidnapping case on Dec 16. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Dec 17. Speaking on it, victim's lawyer Poonam Kaushik said, "Today the victim and her family's struggle towards fight for justice has fulfilled. Today, it is a historic day as accused Kuldeep Sengar is convicted in the case. It is a significant victory of justice."

It is mandatory to link your PAN with Aadhaar by the end of this year, the Income Tax Department said in a public message on Sunday. The deadline to link the permanent account number (PAN) with Aadhaar was extended till December 31 by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) through an order issued in September this year. Earlier, the deadline for this linkage was September 30.

Speaking on Jamia incident, he said, "Police can't enter into university premises without permission of Vice Chancellor. If they weren't permitted, how did police, which comes under Central government, enter into the campus? We condemn it. There should be a judicial inquiry. He further said, "Had Congress been capable of inciting such violence, you wouldn't have been in power."
