Snowfall hits Srinagar, affects power lines

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 13 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar witnessed snowfall on December 13. Vehicular movement has also been affected due to continuous snowfall. Development Commissioner of Srinagar (J-K), Shahid Choudhary said, "It's been snowing since morning, all concerned departments are at work. Technical snags are being repaired, power lines that have been damaged in minor incidents are also being restored, and services at hospitals are available."

India, Maldives exchange agreements, MoUs

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid signed agreements between the two countries. Memorendums of Understanding (MoUs) were also exchanged between India and Maldives on December 13. Maldivian FM is in India on a five-day visit. FM Abdulla Shahid will be participating in the 6th Joint Commission Meeting later today.

EAM Jaishankar meets Maldivian FM Abdulla Shahid

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid in New Delhi on December 13. Delegation level talks were held between the two countries. The two leaders will also participate in the 6th Joint Commission Meeting later on December 13. Maldivian Foreign Minister is in India on a five-day visit.

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Responding to the violent protests against Citizenship Amendment Act in Northeast, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that some elements have tried to take advantage of the situation in region. He said, "Some elements may try to create violence but Northeastern people are peace-loving, protests are also taking place but there are ways and means of protesting. Some have tried to take advantage of the situation."

UK general elections: PM Modi congratulates Boris Johnson for winning majority

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Incumbent United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Conservative Party secured a majority in the House of Commons. The party has crossed the majority mark of 326 seats. The Labour Party lost with 198 seats in the house. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Boris with a tweet. He wrote, "Many congratulations to PM Boris Johnson for his return with a thumping majority. I wish him the best and look forward to working together for closer India-UK ties." This was Britain's third general election in a little more than four years.

Rahul Gandhi's 'Rape in India' remark insult to women: Locket Chatterjee

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): BJP MP Locket Chatterjee on December 13, in Lok Sabha, said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is welcoming everybody to come and rape. She said, "Modi said 'Make in India' but Rahul said 'rape in India', he is welcoming everybody that come and rape us. This is an insult to Indian women and to Bharat Mata." Earlier, while addressing a rally in Jharkhand, Gandhi had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched 'Make in India' but nowadays it is 'Rape in India'.

Cold waves intensify in several parts of North India

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Additional Sessions Judge Satish Kumar Arora on December 13 adjourned the hearing on plea of Nirbhaya's parents seeking issuance of death warrant and execution of all convicts, till December 18. Speaking on the development, Asha Devi, mother of 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim said, "When we have fought for 7 years, we can wait for another week. On December 18, their (convicts in the case) death warrant will be issued."

GST facilitation centre helping Kashmiri businessmen to file their return

Srinagar (JandK), Dec 13 (ANI): The GST facilitation centre has been established by district administration in Srinagar. GST facilitation centre is helping Kashmiri businessmen to file their returns. Thirty computer units have been made available at the centre to facilitate hassle free availing of the facility. IT and NIC officials are assisting the businessmen community with filing their GST returns. The Business community of Kashmir Valley appreciated this step taken by the Srinagar district administration.

2001 Parliament attack: VP Naidu, PM Modi and MPs pay tribute to martyrs

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Parliamentarians paid tribute to those who lost their lives in 2001 Parliament attack. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah paid homage. Former prime minister Manmohan Singh also paid his tribute to the martyrs. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Congress president Sonia Gandhi was also present to pay homage. On December 13, 2001, five terrorists belonging to terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), stormed the Parliament complex in New Delhi and opened fire indiscriminately. Around 14 people, mostly security forces and one civilian, were killed in this incident. The incident took place around 40 minutes after Parliament was adjourned and about 100 members were present in the building.

Equity indices on upswing amid trade deal optimism

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices ruled higher during early hours on Friday following reports that the United States and China have reached an agreement over the terms of a phase one trade deal. At 10:15 am, the BSE S and P Sensex was up by 315 points to 40,897 while the Nifty 50 gained 78 points at 12,050. All sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange except for Nifty pharma were in the positive zone with Nifty metal up by 2.4 per cent, PSU bank by 1.8 per cent and auto by 1.4 per cent.

7 dead due to diphtheria Karnataka's Kalaburagi since September

Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Dec 13 (ANI): At least 7 people have died due to diphtheria since September 2019 in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district. More than hundreds of cases have been registered till now. Campaign is carried out in schools, social welfare hostels and anganwadi centres. Speaking on the same, District Health Officer MK Patil said, "Till date, 134 cases of diphtheria have been reported in the district with 7 deaths. In view of this, state government had launched an awareness campaign".

Parts of North India receive heavy snowfall

Pithoragarh/ Ranikhet (Uttarakhand), Manali (Himachal Pradesh), Pir Panjal (JandK), Dec 13 (ANI): Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh and Ranikhet received fresh snowfall on December 13. Normal life got affected following the snowfall in several areas. Snow covered the entire landscape. Heavy snowfall warning has been issued for today by the weather department in several areas in Uttarakhand. Himachal Pradesh's famous tourist spot Manali was wrapped in a huge blanket of snow and received over 45 cms of fresh snow. Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir's Mughal Road has been closed due to heavy spell of snow.

IBM introduces GRAF system for accurate weather forecast

New Delhi, Dec 13 (ANI): IMB introduced the Global High-Resolution Atmospheric Forecasting System (IBM GRAF) for more accurate weather forecasting system. Speaking on this, IBM Watson Media and Weather General Manager, Cameron Clayton said, "We are excited to launch GRAF model which is globally going to help much brut accuracy around the world specially, place like India. In India, weather forecast is updated twice a day and is typically 12 to 15 km resolution with GRAF it will be updated every hour and at a 3 km resolution. So, profoundly better accuracy as a result of that how much rain you should expect. So you can make much better decision as a farmer every day."
