New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Lok Sabha passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 in the national capital on December 09. CAB had been tabled in the Lower House for discussion during the day time. The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019 passed in Lok Sabha with 311 'AYES' and 80 'NOES'. While speaking to media, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan all are Islamic states, followers of Islam cannot be persecuted there on basis of religion." "This Bill only gives citizenship to those who are persecuted on the basis of religion in these three countries," he added.

Lok Sabha passes Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019

New Delhi, Dec 10 (ANI): The Lok Sabha passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 in the national capital on December 09. Citizenship (Amendment) Bill had been tabled in the Lower House for discussion during the day time. The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019 passed in Lok Sabha with 311 'AYES' and 80 'NOES'. The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Through CAB, Indian citizenship will be provided to the members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities, who have come from the three countries to India till December 31, 2014, to put an end to them being treated as illegal immigrants in the country. Replying to the debate on the Bill in the Lower House, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Hindu population was 84% in 1991 and in 2011 it was 79%." 1 civilian injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in JandK's Poonch

Poonch (JandK), Dec 10 (ANI): Pakistan violated ceasefire in the Shahpur sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on December 09. Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and intense shelling with mortars along LoC. A statement said that at about 15:45, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along LoC in Shahpur sector. One civilian was injured in ceasefire violation in Poonch. The injured civilian has been moved to a hospital for medical treatment. On Dec 2, Centre had informed Rajya Sabha that there have been 950 incidents of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir region from August to October.

BJD demands to include Sri Lanka in Citizenship Amendment Bill

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): Biju Janata Dal came in support of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 but suggested to include Sri Lanka also. Biju Janata Dal's vice president Prasanna Acharya said, "We'll support Citizenship (Amendment) Bill but our suggestion is to include Sri Lanka in it because there were reports about mistreatment towards minorities there in the past." "Government should allay any misunderstanding that bill is against Muslims," BJD leader added. The Bill amends the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal migrants who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, eligible for Indian citizenship.

CAB is unconstitutional, violates Article 14: TMC in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Roy on December 09 opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 on behalf of the party. He said the bill is divisive and unconstitutional, it violates article 14 of the Constitution. "This law is against everything our founding fathers including Dr. Ambedkar envisioned," said Roy. New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): Manipur Education Minister, Thokchom Radheshyam Singh reacted over Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and said that Congress party is doing politics over it. "There should be no agitation against it but people are doing lot of politics, particularly Congress. They have no issues. In Manipur or anywhere else, there's no effect of the bill, but people are being instigated," he further added. He also said, "Already, we have been informed that there is a protection clause for the state of Manipur. The clause has been assured by Home Minister, so we need not worry. It is for betterment of citizens."

Dinesh Gundu Rao resigns as Karnataka Congress chief after debacle in state bypolls

Bengaluru, Dec 09 (ANI): Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday (December 09) said he has resigned from the post of Karnataka Congress president, following the defeat of the party in state by-polls. "I am taking responsibility and resigning from the post of party's Karnataka state president," Rao told reporters in Bengaluru. Ayodhya case: Hindu Mahasabha files review petition, says '5 acres wrongly given to Sunni Central Waqf Board'

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): In the latest lead on the Ayodhya land dispute case, Hindu Mahasabha on December 09 filed a review petition in the Apex Court. Lawyer for Vishnu Jain said that in the review petition Hindu Mahasabha enlisted five points that the five acres of land allotted to the Sunni Central Waqf Board is wrongly given. Second point is that the comment of Supreme Court on places of Worship Act 1991 is wrong and urges the bench to take back the finding. There are three more points that the Hindu Mahasabha raised in front of the Apex Court. Recently, Peace Party filed review petition challenging SC's verdict it says the verdict is not given on the basis of evidence.
