Air quality plunges to 'severe' category in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 01 (ANI): The air quality of national capital took a hit after Diwali night due to a combination of firecracker emissions, stubble burning and unfavourable meteorological conditions. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road area were PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 500 both in 'severe' category. The higher value of AQI indicates greater level of air pollution and health concern. Delhi residents have complained of a spike in respiratory problems and allergies. The stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana makes the situation in Delhi more worse. To curb air pollution, the Arvind Kejriwal led-government in Delhi has announced the implementation of the odd-even scheme from November 04-November 15.

Security tightens after suspicious bag spotted at IGI Airport

New Delhi, Nov 01 (ANI): The security has been tightened at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital on November 01. Security was beefed up after a suspicious bag was spotted in the airport premises. Dog squad of CISF unit was present at the IGI airport. Further investigation is underway in the matter.

Valley of Flowers closes for tourists

Chamoli (Uttarakhand), Nov 01 (ANI): UNESCO world heritage site Valley of Flowers closed for this season for tourists on October 31. Known for its serene landscape, the trek route witnessed very high footfall this season. Around 17,000 travellers from India and around the globe visited the valley this year. The picturesque meadows of Uttarakhand are famous for over 500 plant species.

Cyclone Maha: Lakshadweep affected, several people evacuated

Kalpeni (Lakshadweep), Nov 01 (ANI): Lakshadweep islands witnessed rough sea and heavy rain due to cyclone Maha. Navy personnel are on their toes to help the affected people. Water also entered residential areas hitting normal lives. Navy is co-ordinating with Lakshadweep Administration to shift people to shelters from affected areas. Heavy rainfall is expected very likely at isolated places over Lakshadweep, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Twitter is banning all political ads on platform

New Delhi, Nov 1 (ANI): Twitter has announced that it will ban all political ads on its platform globally. In a series of official tweets, CEO Jack Dorsey wrote that political reach should be earned not bought, stressing on how purchasing the reach can be used to influence votes, affecting the lives of millions. He wrote that Twitter will stop candidate ads as well as issue ads which can also be purchased by candidates. The final policy will be announced by November 11 and it will be enforced globally on November 22, 2019.

Pune Municipal Corporation starts project to beautify city walls

Pune (Maharashtra), Nov 1 (ANI): Pune Municipal Corporation has painted walls across the city as a part of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. With the help of some NGOs, Pune Municipal Corporation has started the initiative to beautify the place. Some of the walls adorn paintings depicting city's tourist places.

Artificial ponds being prepared for locals to observe 'Chhath Puja' in West Bengal

Siliguri (WB), Nov 1 (ANI): Authorities in Siliguri have prepared artificial ghats for devotees observing the four-day Chhath Puja. After the National Green Tribunal imposed a ban on performing rituals in the river, the artificial ghats are constructed at Gandhi Maidan under ward number eight of Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC). Organisers along with the support of local residents have prepared 130 Chhath Ghats in 2019. "The concept of artificial ghats which was first designed by our committee in India is being practised this year as well. We have made ghats at Gandhi Maidan to give devotees a natural river-like atmosphere," said the organiser Khusboo Mittal. The auspicious festival, which started on October 31 is celebrated with huge fervour in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Autistic people have symmetrical brain hemispheres, reveals study

New Delhi, Nov 1 (ANI): While it is known that the human brain is divided into two hemispheres, what is not known is that despite the two develop differently, symmetry is found in the brain of autistic people. The left and right halves develop differently, as each 'specialises' in certain functions. But brain asymmetry is sometimes affected in people with developmental or psychiatric disorders like autism, which is characterised by impaired social cognition, repetitive behaviour, and restricted interests. "Previous studies have suggested that people with autism spectrum disorder are less likely to have the typical asymmetries for language dominance or hand preference," explained PhD student Merel Postema. To find if people with autism have a more symmetrical brain, researchers decided to do a large-scale study, based on brain scan data from 1,774 people with autism and 1,809 healthy controls that were collected in different countries over more than 20 years. Trainee doctors from Coimbatore extend their support to medicos demanding hike in salaries

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Oct 31 (ANI): The trainee doctors at the government-run Coimbatore Medical College Hospital here on Thursday extended their support to the striking doctors who are demanding an increase in their salaries and post-graduate admission quota in medical education. The indefinite strike was started by the trainee doctors on Thursday. The demands of protesting doctors, including five who are on an indefinite fast, include increase in salaries, quota in post-graduate medical education and appointment of more doctors.

He said, "It's a good system, you need to use some other things. There are long term measures and short term measures. Long term measures are legal education, and short term measures are better staffing, better arrangements." Justice Bobde, will become the 47th CJI on November 18 succeeding Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
