New Delhi, Jul 03 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday congratulated Rahul Gandhi for standing firm on his ground to leave the Congress party's president post, and said the Gandhi scion will work towards rebuilding the party and could become Congress chief in future. "Congratulations to him that he stood by his decision. He is young; he can become president again in future. He had always wanted someone else in that position, I can't say that defeat did this. I think he'll now work towards building the party," the Kashmiri leader told ANI. Gandhi today in a statement announced that he is no longer the president of Congress, and urged the Congress Working Committee to convene a meeting at the earliest to decide on the next party chief. Gandhi also removed 'Congress President' from his Twitter bio, and also took responsibility for party's dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections.

New Delhi, Jul 03 (ANI): After Rahul Gandhi finally quit as Congress president today, senior party leader Salman Khurshid said that the Gandhi scion won't cease to be "our leader", similarly like Sonia Gandhi is no more Congress president but she is still "our leader". "He left office of party president; he doesn't cease to be our leader. Sonia Gandhi isn't president anymore but she remains our leader. By way of natural standing they'll continue to have admiration, affection, confidence of party workers in them," Khurshid told ANI. Whereas Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) national spokesperson Nalin Kohli took a dig at Congress for being 'family driven', and said it is up to Rahul Gandhi to resign or continue, and that BJP has no role in internal affairs of Congress.
Patna (Bihar), Jul 03 (ANI): Bihar government on Wednesday distributed mangoes and mango saplings to state MLAs and MLCs. According to them, the move to plant more trees was taken to save the environment. However, in the backdrop of over 150 deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) outbreak in Muzaffarpur, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has criticised the move and said while children are dying, the state government is distributing mangoes. "The BJP people should eat those mangoes. While poor people are dying, they are thinking of mangoes. The central and state governments should feel ashamed," said RJD leader Rabri Devi. After the distribution of mangoes and mango saplings, state Industry Minister Shyam Rajak said, "The environment is in danger these days. Mango saplings are a way to ask people to plant more trees so that the problem can be solved."
Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), Jul 03 (ANI): Bodies of seven climbers, who were killed after being hit by an avalanche near Nanda Devi in May this year, have been airlifted by Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to Pithoragarh and have been handed over to District Administration in Uttarakhand. Eight mountaineers - four from Britain, two from United States, and one each from Australia and India went missing on May 31, after the climbers failed to return to their base camp. Body of one climber has not been found.
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), July 03 (ANI): The special coaching classes will be organised for students in 17 government schools from July 9 in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal. Students will be taught by senior government officials in these classes. While speaking to ANI on this matter, District Education Officer (DEO) of Bhopal Dharmendra Kumar Sharma said, "Bhopal Collector Tarun Pithode took this initiative. Maths, Science and English will be taught to them."
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), July 03 (ANI): Kerala Students' Union (KSU) held protest against Kerala government's decision to implement recommendations of the Khader Committee report. The Khader Committee report proposes single directorate for the education sector. To control the crowd, police resorted to baton-charge. Last month, the Kerala High Court had stayed the state government's decision to implement the report.

Kanchipuram (TN), Jul 03 (ANI): Devotees thronged the temple of Lord Athi Varadar in Kanchipuram on occasion of Kanchi Athi Varadar festival. Lord Athi Varadar is taken out once in 40 years from the temple's pond. Last time, the idol was taken out in 1979. Idol made from fig tree is placed outside for public darshan for 48 days. Floral offerings of devotees are accepted by priests. Various arrangements have been made in the temple to make the visit convenient for devotees.

Sonipat (Haryana), July 03 (ANI): A 12-year-old budding wrestler was shot dead by his wrestling coach in Haryana's Sonipat. He was murdered at his residence on June 1. The incident took place in Palri Kalan Village of Sonipat district. The police probe is underway in the case. The accused was identified as Som Prakash Bhardwaj, who worked as a wrestling coach. The police have booked him for murder under section of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a case under Arms Act has also been registered at Rai police station. The deceased had been learning wrestling with the same coach from February 2018.

Local shops which were closed due to clash are now reopened.
