Mumbai rainfall: Water entered inside Sakinaka Police Station, BMC workers help riders cross waterlogged roads

Mumbai, July 02 (ANI): Heavy rain has lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas and the downpur has entered its fifth day today. Water entered at the Sakinaka Police Station in Mumbai. Several parts in the state are facing waterlogging and flooding due to heavy rainfall. High Tide also occurred at the Marine Drive area in Mumbai. Police and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) workers are helping riders cross waterlogged roads in King's Circle area of Mumbai. Fire Department and Medical Health teams are also conducting rescue operation at the flooded site in Navghar Mithagar. One person rescued and transferred to DM Petit Hospital. Medical team also visited other flood struck areas, assessed houses and searched for other stranded people.

New Delhi, July 02 (ANI): Congress today hit out at Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Sunny Deol for appointing a 'representative' to take care of Gurdaspur. Gurdaspur is Deol's parliamentary constituency. Congress urges that the actor should resign if he is unable to address the issues of the people, who voted for him. While speaking to ANI, Congress Leader Sunil Jakhar said, "People only voted for him so that they could get a selfie with him. Academy invites new members, achieves gender parity in 2019

New Delhi, July 02 (ANI): The Academy of motion Pictures Arts and Sciences revealed their class of 842 new members from different countries. The group announced that half of the members invited to join the Academy are women. The organisation also disclosed that 29 per cent of the new invitees are people of colour. If those people accept the invites, the Academy will have double the percentage of non-white people in their ranks in four years, reported Variety. The organisation also disclosed that 29 percent of the invites are people of colour. New members include 'Crazy Rich Asians' fame director Jon Chu, actors Winston Duke and Gemma Chan, and screenwriters Chinonye Chukwu, Park Young-soo and Ryo Sakaguchi. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Mumbai today: IMD

Mumbai, July 02 (ANI): While speaking to ANI on Tuesday, KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General (DDG), IMD Mumbai said, "In last 24 hours, Colaba received 13 cm rain, Santa Cruz received 37 cm rain. From 11.30 pm-5.30 am, more than 200 mm was recorded. Situation is gradually improving, we have brought down the warning by one level. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Mumbai today. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Thane and Palghar today. There will be improvement in the situation in Mumbai after the noon today."

In scorching heat, students in this MP school study under makeshift tent

Dewas (MP), July 02 (ANI): At a government school in Dokar Kheda village, which is 90 kilometres away from Dewas, students are forced to study under a makeshift tent, even in summers, as they do not have a proper building. Students from classes 6 to 8 are forced to attend the class under the blazing sun above their heads. Locals claimed that construction work for the building started in 2007, but due to the "lackadaisical approach" of the authorities, the structure remains without a roof. They also claimed that the sarpanch did not release the funds received from the government for the construction of the building. S Pandey, DM Dewas, said, "If there is any inconvenience being faced by students of govt schools, immediate inquiry will be done and steps will be taken accordingly."

Flights got cancelled due to heavy rains in Mumbai

Mumbai, July 02 (ANI): Heavy rain has lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas and the downpur has entered its fifth day today. Several flights got cancelled due to heavy and continuous rains in Mumbai today. They stranded at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport as 54 flights have been diverted and 52 got cancelled. Mumbai witnessed heavy rains with the downpour resulting in water logging in several areas of the city. The passengers are facing various problems at the airport due to the delay in flights. Maharashtra government has also declared public holiday in Mumbai today.

Several injured after private bus falls into gorge in AP's Vizianagaram

Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh), July 02 (ANI): Several passengers sustained injuries after a private bus they were travelling in plunged into a gorge at Vizianagaram on Tuesday morning. Around 25 passengers were travelling on the bus, however, the exact number of injuries is yet to be confirmed by the police. Soon after the incident was reported, police rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. Injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

18 people die in wall collapse in Mumbai's Malad

Mumbai, July 02 (ANI): Atleast 18 persons died, while 13 others sustained injuries after a wall collapsed near a school in Pimpripada area of Malad East on Tuesday night. A compound wall collapsed on the hutments due to heavy downpour. While speaking to ANI, NDRF Inspector Rajendra Patil said, "In the search by advance equipment, canine search and physical search no more bodies were found so search operation is now being closed." Thirteen people have been admitted to the trauma centre at Jogeshwari and Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. Some people were rescued by the public before the arrival of the fire brigade and NDRF team.

New STPs, ghats to keep Ganga water unpolluted in Haridwar

Haridwar, Uttarakhand July 2, 2019 (ANI): A growing metropolis and hub of religious tourism, the ancient city of Haridwar attracts lakhs of tourists every year to take a holy dip in river Ganga. With rising population and high inflow of visitors, the city generates over 108-Million litres of sewage per day, but its existing sewage treatment plants can treat only half of it. So, to prevent the discharge of sewage into the river, several initiatives have been taken by the government under the Nanami Gange programme. Out of 22 major drains in Haridwar, 21 of them have been completely tapped and the flow has been diverted. The capacity of Sewage Treatment Plants (or STPs) is also being enhanced by constructing new facilities. 68 MLD STP at Jagjeetpur and 14 MLD STP at Sarai are near completion. Forest Range officers plant saplings to protest against TRS attack in Telangana

Asifabad (Telangana), July 02 (ANI): Scores of Forest Range officers came together in a show of unity here on Monday to protest against the attack by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) workers and their supporters on their colleagues and police recently. As many as 400 officials took part in this plantation drive, including 50 policemen, and planted saplings as a way of responding to the assault.
