After over 40 deaths in Bihar's Gaya, 5 more die in Nalanda due to heat stroke

Nalanda (Bihar), Jun 17 (ANI): Bihar, which is reeling under intense heat wave has witnessed a spate of deaths due to heat stroke and in Gaya alone, more than 40 people have died due to the scorching heat. And now in Nalanda, according to an official, five people have died due to heat stroke. "Four people have died at the hospital due to heat stroke whereas one patient was brought dead. 58 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital after heat stroke," said Gyan Bhushan, Superintendent, Pawapuri Medical College, Nalanda. Bhusan advised people in Bihar to avoid stepping out and drink Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) as much as possible.

National Project Status should be granted to ERCP: CM Gehlot

New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): 5th NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was organised at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Addressing the meeting, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot presented a strong case for Rajasthan on several important issues of state's development including drinking water, rainwater harvesting, agriculture, drought management and health etc. He asked the centre for providing the Union government's share in the centrally-sponsored schemes on time and demanded support from the centre for strengthening Rajasthan's financial management. Gehlot also demanded that Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) should be declared a national project. This project is expected to supply drinking water to 13-districts of Rajasthan and make irrigation water available for an additional 2 lakh hectares of land. Ingenious 'bike' for climbing Areca nut tree to make farmers' lives easier in Karnataka's Mangaluru

Mangaluru (Karnataka), June 17 (ANI): In wake of the fact that there is a shortage of traditional Areca nut tree climbers, farmers here are finding it difficult to sustain the Areca nut plantation. However, a 48-year-old farmer, Ganapathi, took it as a challenge and invented ingenious bike like equipment (driven by a motor) seated on which a person can easily climb upto the top of vertical Areca nut tree for spraying pesticides and plucking. Climbing Areca nut tree is considered essential for spraying pesticides in the rainy season and for plucking (harvesting crop) at the end of the year. To avoid man-animal conflict, villagers near UP's Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary stay alert

Balrampur (Uttar Pradesh), June 17 (ANI): People residing in villages near the Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh are forced to stay awake at night most of the time to avoid any conflict with animals, specially leopards, which come out of the forest area in search of water. "Leopards generally stay near the fringes and often come out of the area. There are several villages near the Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary as its boundaries are in zigzag form. The incidents increased in March and April during the crop cutting. For this, the forest department takes a lot of measures, specially officials visit these villages and make people aware about leopard movement to avoid any conflict," said Divisional Forest Officer RK Mittal. Caught on cam: Cops thrash auto driver after accident, 3 officials suspended

New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): Policemen thrashed two men after their auto bumped into a police vehicle in New Delhi on Sunday. The footage was caught on CCTV camera in Mukherjee Nagar area. They dragged the driver and his son, out of their auto and thrashed them for 'no reason'. However, police have blamed the auto driver saying that he attacked a police officer with a sword and injured another with the vehicle. Three cops were suspended after the incident.

Doctors continue nationwide strike over violence against doctors in West Bengal
