Twitter pulls down over 4,000 accounts linked to Iranian government

New Delhi, Jun 17 (ANI): In its latest transparency disclosure, Twitter revealed that it pulled down a massive chunk of accounts related to the Iranian government which were found in violation of the Twitter Rules. In an official blog, Head of Site Integrity, Yoel Roth noted that the company removed a total of 4,779 accounts originating in Iran and believed to be associated with or directly backed by the Iranian government. Out of these, more than 1600 accounts originated in Iran and tweeted nearly 2 million times global news content with an angle that benefited the diplomatic and geostrategic views of the Iranian state. Over 200 accounts were more directly engaged with discussions related to Israel, while more than 2800 accounts employed false personas to target political conversations in Iran.

Hoshiarpur farmer sets a shining example of apple cultivation in Punjab

Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Jun 17 (ANI): Traditionally limited to states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh, apple cultivation has now picked up pace in Punjab. Gurinder Singh Bajwa, a farmer from Ludhiana, is producing apples on a large scale in his farm in Chahal village in Hoshiarpur. Gurinder Singh Bajwa, farmer-turned-horticulturist, is producing apples of Anna variety, Dorsette golden variety, and pink lady, on 2 acres land at his farm in Chahal. Following in his footsteps, Colonel (Retd) RP Singh has also started cultivating apples here. Speaking to ANI, he told, "I used to work for a private firm in Srinagar and spray chemicals at apples. I thought of growing apples in Punjab but they were of high-chilling varieties. A few years ago I got to know that Himachal Pradesh government has introduced low chilling varieties, which I later grew here."

Court sentences dog owners 6-month imprisonment after their dog mauled girl

Nawanshahr (Punjab), Jun 17 (ANI): Pitbull owners, father andson, were awarded six-month imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 each by a court on Saturday. They were convicted and sentenced as their dog had mauled a 13-year-old girl in Banga town on February 10, 2018. The father of the girl, Ramesh Kumar Gulati, said, "She had to undergo 3-4 surgeries. It cost us 2-2.5 lakh rupees. I had to even close my shop for 15-20 days. Court has awarded them imprisonment but case for financial loss is still underway."

Social Welfare Dept provides specially-designed scooters to 10 specially-abled people in J-K's Doda

New Delhi, Jun 17 (ANI): To help the newborn immune system learn to discriminate between friend and foe, mothers transfer antibodies to their infants via the placenta, recent findings suggest. The rules by which the placenta performs this absolutely essential function have been unknown but if decoded, could hold the key to generating more powerful vaccines to protect these most precious patients. While maternal antibodies against some diseases such as measles can be transferred from mother to infant, providing some protection until the child is old enough for individual vaccination, antibodies to other serious diseases like polio are less efficiently transferred. Their investigation revealed that the placenta preferentially sifts out and delivers to the infant antibodies that activate natural killer (NK) cells, key elements of the innate immune system. Kolkata, June 16 (ANI): As the impasse at state-run medical colleges and hospitals in West Bengal entered the sixth day, doctors at NRS Medical College and Hospital held general body meeting in Kolkata. After the general body meeting of juniors doctors, a spokesperson of joint forum of junior doctors said, "We want immediate end to this impasse by discussion with the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee but that shouldn't be behind closed doors." "To maintain transparency, we want this meeting to be held under media coverage." Banerjee had on Saturday invited the agitators for closed-door talks, but the offer was turned down by them.

Central government delayed J-K election for their own benefit: Ghulam Nabi Azad

New Delhi, June 16 (ANI): Congress party senior leader Gulam Nabi Azad accused Central Government over pushing the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir for their own benefit. After the all-party meeting at parliament, Ghulam Nabi Azad addressed media and said, "When Parliament election could happened in J-K then why not assembly elections. He also said that there is no need of governor rule in Jammu and Kashmir." Amid speculations of delimitation, Ghulam Nabi Azad urged PM Modi government to organize assembly elections in J-K. PoK: Police arrests activists protesting against hydro-power plants

Muzaffarabad (PoK), Jun 16 (ANI): Police has arrested at least 60 protesters and manhandled activists who have been protesting in Muzaffarabad city of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). A large number of protesters blocked the highway demanding Islamabad to stop building hydro power projects on Neelum and Jhelum rivers as it will result in diverting the water and affecting normal life for residents. The residents in Muzaffarabad have been on sit-in protest for over two months but the authorities and government have failed to listen to their demands. Later, shops and businesses have been shut down in protest over police action on protesters. The Kashmiri diaspora has announced a protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in London on June 18.
