New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi held meeting with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) officials to review the situation arising out of cyclone Amphan in eastern states of Odisha and West Bengal. Mumbai, May 18 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices extended early losses and closed 3.4 per cent lower on Monday as the country extended nationwide lockdown till month-end to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Besides, the government's set of measures under its stimulus package fell short of market expectations due to the lack of enough measures to boost immediate demand and consumption. The BSE S-P Sensex closed 1,069 points or 3.44 per cent lower at 30,029 while the Nifty 50 edged lower by 314 points or 3.43 per cent at 8,823. Except for Nifty IT, all sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the red with Nifty private bank down by 6.9 per cent, PSU bank by 5.9 per cent, financial service by 6.6 per cent and auto by 5.5 per cent. Bank stocks tumbled after the government said it will halt fresh insolvency cases for a year to avoid bankruptcies from firms hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Bhubaneswar (Odisha), May 18 (ANI): India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director HR Biswas on May 18 gave information on cyclone Amphan. He said that cyclone Amphan is very likely to intensify into super cyclonic storm in next six hours. "We've issued heavy rainfall warnings for Gajapati, Puri, Ganjam Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara. Tomorrow rainfall activity to increase in Balasore,Bhadrak, Jajapur,Mayurbhanj,Khurja, Cuttack," said IMD Director HR Biswas.
Bhubaneswar (Odisha), May 18(ANI): Amphan is likely to intensify into a super cyclonic storm in next six hours. Heavy rainfall warning has been issued in coastal parts of Odisha. Fire department is on alert. 1470 personnel of fire department are ready to face emergency situation in the state. Odisha Chief Fire Officer Sukanta Sethi on preparation of fire department said that the department is ready to face any emergency during this cyclone. "1470 manpower has been prepared to tackle this situation," he said. He further said, "We have divided our fire station staff into 3 teams, one to stay at the station and attend any fire calls and special service calls, another team will continue the sanitation work and the third team will remain ready to work during this disaster."
New Delhi, May 18(ANI): Amid lockdown 4.0, businessman and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's husband, Robert Vadra distributed food and essential goods to the migrant workers, who are facing multiple problems while returning back to their native places. He said, "I wanted to distribute it myself but social distancing will go for a toss." Vadra started a campaign, "We pray to God that you reach your destination safely." Robert Vadra requested all the political leaders to come above the political line and do whatever is good for the migrant workers.
Ahmedabad (Gujarat), May 18 (ANI): A clash between police and migrant labourers took place in Ahmedabad on May 18. Migrant labourers pelted stones at police and vandalised their two vehicles allegedly over their demand to go back to their home states. Two police personnel injured got injured. While talking about the incident, PL Mal DCP of Zone-1 in Ahmedabad said, "When police stopped them they pelted stones, went to Vastrapur and vandalised two police vehicles. They also vandalized the office at a construction site. 250 people have been rounded up. Action will be taken against culprits. Situation is under control".

Maria Tahir said in a video message that she is being denied justice while her rapists are out on the loose. Refusing to bog down and be silenced, Maria Tahir is relentlessly pursuing her case. she has written several letters to local authorities including Chief Justice of Azad Kashmir. New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): Indian former finance minister P Chidambaram on May 18 slammed the announcement of stimulus package made by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and said that stimulus package is an eyewash and nothing will go to the poor. "This package should be rejected as inadequate and the govt should come out with a revised and comprehensive package. We express our thorough disappointment over the stimulus package announced by the Centre. This is complete eyewash. We request govt to announce a revised fiscal stimulus package of not less than Rs 10 lakh crore of real additional expenditure," said Chidambaram.
