Surat (Gujarat), May 02 (ANI): Medical professionals celebrated birthday of a COVID-19 patient in Surat. Mohammad Sadik was presented with a cake on special day sent by his family. A joint video conference was held with presence of Sadik's family and MLA Harsh Sanghavi. To his surprise, famous Antariksh band also joined the video call and performed live.

And to pay them tribute, he announced, "There are some special activities that nation will get to witness. Air Force to conduct flypast from Srinagar to Trivandrum and another one starting from Dibrugarh in Assam to Kutch in Gujarat. It'll include both transport and fighter aircraft." West Bengal only state where centre's COVID-19 team faced problems: Governor Dhankhar

Kolkata (WB), May 01 (ANI): Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar on May 1 took a pot shot at CM Mamata Banerjee's government over 'not supporting' the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), which has been sent by the centre to assist the state government over COVID-19 pandemic. He said, "West Bengal is the only state where Inter-Ministerial Central Team faced problems in carrying out their work. When entire country is fighting against COVID-19 and IMCT team came to assess the situation, we should have received it with red carpet."

COVID-19: HCQ production raised to 30 crore tablets, 16 crore tablets released in market, says govt

New Delhi, May 01 (ANI): India has increased production of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to 30 crore tablets from 12.23 crore tablets, the government said on May 01. Chairman of Empowered Group-3, PD Vaghela said, "Production of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) has increased to 30 crore tablets from 12.23 crore tablets. A total of 16 crore HCQ tablets released into the market." Even as the drug's efficacy is not yet clinically proven, HCQ - an anti-malarial drug is said to be effective in treatment for COVID-19 patients. India has imported HCQ to United States of America and other nations. Centre has created 11 Empowered Group in the view of COVID-19 pandemic. Empowered Group-3 has responsibility to ensure availability of essential medical supplies.

Nationwide coronavirus lockdown extended for two more weeks: MHA

New Delhi, May 01 (ANI): Ministry of Home Affairs on May 01 announced extension of the lockdown in the wake coronavirus pandemic. Ministry of Home Affairs issued order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 04.

COVID-19: 20 arrested in connection with attack during medical team's visit in Kanpur

Kanpur (UP), May 01 (ANI): Amid nationwide lockdown, when health workers and police are fighting the pandemic at the forefront, some lockdown violators are attacking and pelting stones at them. A similar incident has been recorded in Kanpur's Chaman Ganj area, where medical team has been attacked by the locals. Police have arrested 20 people in this connection. According to Kanpur DM Dr. Braham Deo Ram Tiwari, 10 people have been arrested by police by identifying them from the spot and 10 people have been arrested today. Lawsuit has been filed in NSA, he added. The incident took place on April 29 when a medical team visited the neighborhood to bring a patient, who tested positive for COVID-19. UP has recorded 2203 confirmed cases and 39 deaths till now.

Some states not letting migrant workers travel despite centre's order: Rajasthan Transport Minister

Jaipur (Rajasthan), May 01 (ANI): Rajasthan Transport Minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas on May 1 alleged that the state has sent buses to bring back stranded workers from different states but governments from different states are not letting them travel. He said, "We've sent buses to bring back stranded workers from different states. But there are cases where state government is not letting them travel. Chairman of Empowered Group-3, PD Vaghela informed, "Total number of 19,398 ventilators are available right now, and we have ordered 60,884 ventilators however the current situation demand 75,000 ventilators." Centre has created 11 Empowered Group in the view of COVID-19 pandemic. Empowered Group-3 has responsibility to ensure availability of essential medical supplies.

Hit by lockdown, stranded migrant workers in Bengaluru find trouble paying for bus tickets

Bengaluru, May 01 (ANI): Stranded migrants workers in Bengaluru are facing another hardship after getting permission to return back to their hometown. Migrant workers said they don't have enough money to buy even a bus ticket as lockdown has tremendously hit their livelihoods. A migrant worker, who used to work in a private company said, "I have no income since 2 months, I don't have enough money to go back to my hometown. They are asking too much money. Government should give us some discount." the Home Ministry allowed movement of stranded migrant workers between states on April 29.

Radha Soami Satsang Beas in Ajmer feed the poor amid lockdown

Ajmer, (Rajasthan) (ANI) May 1: The nationwide lockdown in the backdrop of Covid-19 outbreak has hit the poor hard. Among many organizations, who have come forward to lend a helping hand to needy, Radha Soami Satsang Baes is ensuring no one remain hungry during the pandemic. Its Bhagwan Ganj ashram in Ajmer, Rajasthan prepares over 7,000 fresh and hygienic food packets at the community kitchen. The volunteers work round the clock to prepare meals for distribution. The Radha Soami Satsang Beas takes all required measures while cooking food. Its volunteers wear masks, gloves and other required safety kits to maintain hygiene. These volunteers also have to go under regular medical check-ups at the centre. Local authorities collect meals from the centre for outdoor distribution.

Srinagar (J-K), May 01 (ANI): For many years, the Floating Vegetable Market on Srinagar's Dal Lake is fulfilling the demands of residents. Even during the time when COVID-19 pandemic has gripped the nation, and most of the markets and mandis are closed, the floating vegetable market is still fulfilling the demands of the residents. The sellers also follow social distancing norms. The vegetable sellers purchase vegetables from the market and sell to the doorsteps of the dwellers for decades. The floating vegetable market is an age-old tradition of Dal Lake and thousands of people are earning their livelihoods with the help of this market who are selling different type of vegetables at whole sale rates. Recently, an elderly woman of Batpora tested positive for the disease and died at the hospital. Her close contacts have been quarantined, of which one family member tested positive. Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 614 confirmed cases and eight deaths till now.

MHA allows inter-state travel of stranded migrant workers through special trains

New Delhi, May 01 (ANI): Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) allowed the movement of migrant workers, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places through special trains. MHA has asked state governments and Railway Board to ensure better arrangement and health protocol for evacuation. While addressing the press conference, Joint Secretary of MHA, Punya Salila Srivastava, said, "Today, Ministry of Home Affairs allows the movement of migrant workers, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places through special trains."

COVID-19: Patient treated with plasma therapy got discharged on April 30, says CM Kejriwal
