COVID-19: 'Pool testing' begins in Uttar Pradesh, says State Health Secy

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Apr 15: During a press conference held in Lucknow on April 16, Uttar Pradesh's Principal Health Secretary, Amit Mohan Prasad, informed that the 'pool testing' is started in the state. Prasad said, "COVID-19 cases rise to 773 in Uttar Pradesh. These cases have been reported from 48 districts. Out of these 773, 69 people have been cured and discharged. 13 people have been died due to coronavirus in the state as of now. We have started 'pool testing' in the state. Yesterday, the testing was done by making 30 pools of 5-5 of 150 samples. The testing was a successful one. We brought all those samples from the buffer zone. All these 30 pools were tested negative. We will expand pool testing more in other districts as well."

ICMR explains rationale behind India's testing strategy in comparison to other countries

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): While addressing a press conference in the national capital on April 16 amid coronavirus pandemic, the scientist of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dr Raman R Gangakhedkar said, "In Japan, to find one positive case, 11.7 persons are tested. In Italy that number is 6.7, in US it's 5.3, in UK it's 3.4. Here in India, we do 24 tests for one positive case."

Legal actions taken against 17 people involved in Moradabad stone pelting incident: UP Home Secy

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Apr 16 (ANI): During a press conference held in Lucknow on April 16, Uttar Pradesh's Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi informed that legal actions have been taken against 17 people who were involved in Moradabad stone pelting incident. Awasthi said, "After the incident that happened in Moradabad, we have arrested 17 people last night and legal actions have been taken against them. We have all the visuals and have identified each person who was involved in the incident and sent them to jail. We are also making them to compensate so that they don't do all these things in future. All the health teams will get proper protection."

Large-scale testing important to fight COVID-19: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said if government wants to fight COVID-19 then government has to increase the testing dramatically."Biggest weapon against COVID-19 is testing-testing at scale so you know where the virus is moving and you can isolate, target and fight it. Our testing rate is 199 out of a million, all tests that we've done in last 72 days, works out to approx average of 350 tests per district. If you want to fight the virus, you've to increase the testing dramatically and your testing has to go from chasing the virus to moving ahead of it. You've to move to random testing and pre-empt where the virus is moving," said Rahul Gandhi while addressing press conference via videoconferencing.

COVID-19: Cops of Delhi Police's RK Puram station get luxurious 5-star stay

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): RK Puram Police Station of Delhi has made arrangements of lodging at Hotel Hyatt Regency amid coronavirus lockdown. They have made the arrangements for its police personnel commuting from National Capital Region (NCR) during COVID-19 outbreak. Cops of RK Puram Police Station were facing problems in commuting as borders are sealed. While speaking to ANI, the SHO of RK Puram Police Station, Rajesh Sharma said, "They were facing problems in commuting as borders are sealed. They could have also posed a risk to their families as they are on field." "We did this, as there wasn't enough space for them in police barracks. Hotel has allotted us 13 rooms," he added. It is the first police station in Delhi to felicitate their cops by providing them accommodation in a five star hotel. The nation-wide lockdown has been extended till May 03 due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Awasthi said, "At its first stage, all the six cases from Maharajganj have tested negative today and we will soon conducted second stage test for them and there are high chances that Maharajganj district will soon be corona-free in coming days. This is positive news for us that most of the corona positive patients are now testing negative."

India's 325 districts have no cases of COVID-19 yet: Health Ministry

New Delhi, Apr 16 (ANI): While addressing a press conference in the national capital on April 16 amid COVID-19 pandemic, the Joint Secretary of Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal said, "325 districts in India have no cases of COVID-19." "No case has been reported since the last 28 days in Mahe district, Puducherry," he added. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of COVID-19 active cases rose to 10477 in India and 414 deaths.

2,90,401 people tested for COVID-19 till Apr 15: ICMR
