"Amit Shah says CAA, NPR, NRC is a chronology and Prime Minister Narendra Modi says NRC is not going to happen. Who is speaking truth and who is lying? Not the time for politics: Kejriwal on BJP's attack over delay in hanging of Nirbhaya's convicts

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on January 17 reacted on the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape case. He said, "Everyone wants that the convicts should be punished soon. This is not the time to do politics. Both Centre and state governments should try to make sure that all processes are completed and the convicts are hanged at the earliest." He also added, Prakash Javadekar Ji had said something, Smriti Irani Ji also said something else...No good will come from blaming each other. We have to make a system where rapists are hanged within 6 months of the crime."

Nirbhaya's lawyer thanks President for rejecting mercy plea of convict Mukesh Singh

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Lawyer of Nirbhaya's parents, Seema Kushwaha, on January 17 thanked President Ram Nath Kovind for rejecting the mercy plea of one of the convicts in the heinous rape case. She said, "This is very good news for us, we are going to argue on Patiala Court on stopping the other three convicts on filing mercy plea as they have already given seven days time earlier to file the mercy plea, so that the death sentence will be executed on coming 22 Jan." She also said that hanging Nirbhaya's culprits will also impact other rape cases in the country. The President rejected the mercy plea of Mukesh Singh, one of the four men facing the gallows in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case.

'No interest in politics': Nirbhaya's mother on reports of Congress fielding her against Kejriwal

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): While speaking to ANI, on reports that Congress could field her against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on New Delhi seat for upcoming assembly elections, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi said that she has no interest in politics. "I have no interest in politics. I have not spoken to anyone in Congress. I only want justice for my daughter and execution of the convicts," said Nirbhaya's mother.

SC issued notice on plea challenging NPR notification: Petitioner

New Delhi, Jan 17 (ANI): Supreme Court lawyer MR Shamshad, who has filed a petition challenging notification of National Population Register said, "We have challenged the notification of NPR as well on which notice has been issued, probably it will be tagged with the other petitions but NPR notification has been challenged on which notice has been issued." Nationwide protests have emerged since the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which will give Indian citizenship to religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who have come to India to escape persecution.

While speaking to ANI, Chandrashekhar Azad said, "I am here to visit Ravidas temple, then I will go to a gurdwara and a church and later to Jama Masjid at 01:00 pm." "The purpose is to mark protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) and also to tell people that such black laws can't be imposed on us," he added. He was released after a Delhi Court granted him bail ordering him to not hold any protest in Delhi till February 16, 2020.
