New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): The road stretch of Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh remained closed for traffic in the national capital. Stretch is closed for traffic since December 15 last year over anti-CAA protests. Delhi High Court asked concerned authority to look into the matter in larger public interest and deal with issue of maintaining law and order. It is a petition seeking to withdraw closure of Delhi's Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh stretch which was closed on December 15, 2019 for ongoing protests against CAA.
New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): While speaking to ANI in the national capital on January 14, the Minister of Labour and Employment in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Gopal Rai spoke on coming Delhi Assembly elections. He said, "The only strategy of AAP is to reach up to maximum masses and connect with the people on one to one basis. People should fight the election for us." "Our motive is to activate the people of Delhi and they should work for the establishment of government," he added. Assembly elections in Delhi are scheduled to be held on February 8.
New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): Union Minister for External Affairs, S Jaishankar met Foreign Affairs Minister of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Kamilov in Delhi on January 14. They held delegation-level talks upon their meeting. New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): Supreme Court dismissed curative petitions of two convicts - Vinay Kumar Sharma and Mukesh Singh in 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case on January 14. Convicts moved to SC after a Delhi court issued death warrant of all four convicts. Convicts are slated for execution on January 22, 7 AM. They were convicted for heinous rape of a 23-year-old medical professional on a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012. The victim later succumbed to her injuries.
New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): After Supreme Court rejected curative petition of convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case, convicts' lawyer AP Singh said that further legal remedies will be sought. He said, "We will talk to our client and take further legal remedies. It is a media trial." Meanwhile, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi, termed it 'big day'. She said, "This is a big day for me. I had been struggling for the last 7 years. But the biggest day will be 22nd January when they (convicts) will be hanged." A Delhi court has pronounced execution of convicts to be held on January 22, at 7 AM. The last resort for convicts is a mercy plea.
New Delhi, Jan 14 (ANI): Massive fire broke at a footwear manufacturing unit in Delhi's Lawrence Road on January 14. At least 26 fire tenders reached at the spot to douse the fire. The reason of fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.

General Naravane informed that total 1700 women will be inducted in Corps of Military Police. "We are getting women into Corps of Military Police. Total 1700 will be inducted in corps military police. Training of 101 women has already been started from 6 January this year," said Army Chief.

Bengaluru, Jan 14 (ANI): Several depositors queued up outside Sri Guru Raghavendra Co-operative Bank in Karnataka's Bengaluru on January 14. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has restricted the bank from doing business with immediate effect and capped withdrawal limit at Rs 35,000. Large numbers of depositors have queued up outside bank to withdraw money. While speaking to ANI, one of the depositors said, "My husband has a fixed deposit here-around Rs 15-20 Lakh. He is retired. We're dependent on it." "When we got the message we were disturbed. But when we came here, the advisor in the bank told us that deposit is safe. But we need to wait for six months. We're not happy," she added. RBI has said that the licence of the bank has not been cancelled, it can continue to 'undertake banking business with restrictions till its financial position improves'.

Shivamogga was known as the 'sugarcane paradise' during Mysuru Maharaja's times but the production of sugarcane has gradually declined. Now, the cultivation of sugarcane has been restricted. Sugarcanes are in high demand in festive season. It is estimated that in future a situation may arise that Shivamogga will have to import sugarcanes from different parts of the country.

Chennai, Jan 14 (ANI): Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan celebrated 'Pongal' in traditional way. Governor Soundararajan is in Chennai to celebrate Pongal. Pongal is a harvest festival dedicated to the Sun God. Tamilisai Soundararajan prepared traditional sweet dish of Pongal which is made from newly-harvested rice and jaggery. It is one of the most auspicious festivals for Tamils which is mainly celebrated to offer prayers to the Sun God for a good harvest. Pongal coincides with 'Makar Sankranti' which is celebrated in North India. It marks the start of the Sun's six-month-long journey towards Uttarayanam.
