Iran admits to shoot down Ukrainian jetliner 'unintentionally'

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): Iran authority admitted that regrettably missiles fired due to "human error" caused the horrific crash of the Ukrainian plane on Jan 11. Investigations continue to identify and prosecute this great tragedy. In a tweet, President of Islamic Republic of Iran regretted this disastrous mistake. All 176 passengers onboard were killed including citizen of Iran, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Germany, UK on Jan 08. Earlier, USA killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in a drone attack orders of US President Donald Trump. In retaliation to the incident, Iran fired more than a dozen missiles at US forces in Iraq. Iran claimed that around 80 'American terrorists' were killed in the missile attack, however, in a press conference, Trump confirmed no causalities in the attack by Iran and tweeted 'All is well'.

Kannauj bus accident: Injured passengers recall horrific incident

Kannauj (UP), Jan 11 (ANI): People injured in UP's Kannauj bus accident were admitted to a hospital. A bus carrying over 40 passengers collided with a truck and caught fire on January 10. The collision took place on GT Road. Speaking to ANI, an injured passenger said, "The bus collided with the truck and immediately caused fire, several passengers were stuck in the bus."

The H2O Holyfaith apartment tower will be razed to the ground, followed by second demolition. The final round of demolition will take place on Sunday. Security tightened outside JNU campus

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): Security beefed up at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University on Jan 11. Police forces have been deployed outside JNU campus. On Jan 09, Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) protested against the violence that happened on Jan 05. Several masked goons entered into JNU campus and beaten up students on Jan 05. JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh was also allegedly attacked by masked goons.

Rahul Dravid turns 47

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): The ace Indian batsman Rahul Dravid celebrates his 47th birthday today. The former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, commonly known as 'The Wall' is renowned for doing everything that the team asked from him and enabling the side to turn the tables after being completely down and out. He is the only player to be involved in two 300-plus ODI partnerships. The batsman played 164 Tests, 344 ODIs and one T20I for India. He finally announced his retirement from international cricket in March 2012. Dravid finished his career with 48 international centuries. His love for the country and cricket still shows as he has taken up the role of coaching the junior Indian sides (India U-19, India A). He is also the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Local pollutants major contributor to Delhi's air pollution: Study

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): A new comprehensive study revealed that construction activities and vehicular traffic contribute significantly to the Delhi and National Capital Region's high concentrations of harmful air pollutants and gases. According to the World Health Organisation, air pollution was estimated to cause nearly 4.2 million premature deaths worldwide in 2016. In India, around 600,000 deaths annually are attributed to air pollution, and some of the world's highest levels can be found in Delhi city. In a study published in Sustainable Cities and Society, a team led by Surrey's Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE) gathered and analysed four years of pollution data from 12 sites across Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, with the aim of understanding how particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and gases (oxides of nitrogen, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and ozone) impact this area of India. Panchkula organisation uses radium tapes to secure stray animals from night traffic

Demolition of Maradu flats in Kochi to begin today

Kochi (Kerala), Jan 11 (ANI): All arrangements have been made for the two-day demolition of Maradu flats in Kochi that will begin from today at 11 am. A mock drill was carried out successfully on Friday to ensure the safety of citizens ahead of the demolition of four multi-storey flats at Maradu here. The mock drill was held after a primary evaluation of safety measures taken by police. Ahead of the demolition of four apartments - Holy Faith H2O, twin towers of Alfa Serene, Jain Coral Cove, and Golden Kayaloram - in Maradu through controlled explosion on January 11-12, the district administration issued advisory and restricted drones in the evacuation zone with immediate effect. As per the advisory, Section 144, which prohibits an assembly of four or more people in an area, has been imposed in the evacuation zone of all the flats to be demolished from 8 am to 4 pm.
