Mumbai Police arrests gangster Ejaz Lakdawala

Mumbai, Jan 09 (ANI): Gangster Ejaz Lakdawala was arrested from Patna by Mumbai Police's anti extortion cell on Jan 08. He is remanded to police custody till January 21 by court. Speaking on it, Commissioner of Mumbai Police, Sanjay Barve said, "Gangster Ejaz Lakdawala, who used to do extortion call to give threats to people, is arrested by Mumbai City Crime Branch in Patna. We presented him before the court today. He is remanded to police custody till January 21 by Court. We have 25 cases in Mumbai city and we have contacted various units in Maharashtra as well as other states to find out how many all cases are out there in total. We are collecting the information on it."

Former CM Raman Singh's PA arrested for sexually assaulting minor

Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Jan 09 (ANI): Personal Assistant (PA) to former Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh, OP Gupta was arrested on January 08 for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl. Raipur ASP, Praful Thakur said, "The girl used to live at his residence. A case has been registered under sections 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code and POSCO Act."

New Delhi, Jan 9 (ANI): Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena met Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale in New Delhi on Jan 09. Gunawardena is set to hold several other meetings during the two-day visit. This is Gunawardena's first official visit after taking over as Foreign Minister last November following the formation of the new government in Sri Lanka. Gunawardena is also scheduled to visit Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar.

Equity indices trade higher amid easing geopolitical tensions

New Delhi, Jan 9 (ANI): Equity benchmark parameters edged higher during early hours on Jan 09. This came after the remarks by US President Donald Trump that eased fears of a larger conflict with Iran. AT 10:15 am, BSE SandP Sensex was up by 404 points to 41,221 while Nifty 50 ticked up by 126 points at 12,151. Except for Nifty IT which dipped slightly, all sectoral indices were in the positive zone. Nifty PSU bank gained by 1.97 per cent each, realty by 1.85 per cent and metal by 1.27 per cent.

Laxmi Agarwal's Lawyer files plea seeking stay at 'Chhapaak' for skipping credit

New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): Senior Supreme Court lawyer Aparna Bhatt filed plea in Delhi's Patiala House Court seeking stay on film 'Chhapaak'. Bhatt in her plea has claimed that she was the lawyer for acid attack victim Laxmi Agarwal for many years and yet she has not been given credit in the film. Deepika Padukone plays the role of acid attack victim in the film. 'Chhapaak' is set to release on January 10.

North India reels under cold waves

Ludhiana (Punjab) / Varanasi (UP) / Mount Abu (Rajasthan), Jan 09 (ANI): Temperature has dipped down in North India once again after snowfall in hilly regions. Parts of North India have also received rainfall on Jan 08 which contributed in cold weather. Punjab's Ludhiana is reeling under cold waves. Locals flock to tea stalls to keep themselves warm and also took support of bonfires to beat the cold weather. Temperature also dipped several degrees in Varanasi as well. Cold increased in Rajasthan's Mount Abu too. The chilly weather will continue in coming weeks too.

Blast occurs in tempo loaded with LPG cylinder in Surat

Surat (Gujarat), Jan 09 (ANI): A tempo loaded with LPG cylinder caught fire on Jan 09. The mishap took place in Gujarat's Surat. Fire tenders are at the spot to douse the flame. The reason for the blast is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.

Security tightened at JNU campus

New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): Police force beefed up outside Delhi's JNU campus on Jan 09. Several masked goons entered the campus and beaten students on Jan 05. These goons also caused destruction to the property. Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) president Aishe Ghosh was also allegedly attacked by masked goons.

"The Indian Navy is much stronger than of Pakistan and can completely destroy them, but Pakistan Navy and Chinese Navy take action jointly, and this has been the first time where submarine has been deployed. Ambala (Haryana), Jan 09 (ANI): Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij talked on the reports that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has taken away charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from him. He said that Chief Minister can take away the charge but it has to be approved in cabinet and then in Vidhan Sabha. "Chief Minister is supreme. He can take charge of the CID if he wants to. But, for that it has to be approved in cabinet then in Vidhan Sabha," said Anil Vij.
