Google Assistant will become translator for American Airlines guests

New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): Guests at select American Airlines lounges will be able to turn to Google Assistant for help with translation. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020, the company announced that it is bringing Google Assistant's interpreter mode to Google Nest Hubs in its lounges at the Los Angeles International Airport, reports Engadget. The interpreter mode allows Google Assistant to translate 29 languages, including Arabic, Russian, French, and Japanese, in real-time. American Airlines will only use the mode when there are no multilingual team members around to help passengers.

Study finds supplements like zinc, folic acid do not enhance male fertility

New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): A new study showed that dietary supplements zinc and folic acid which have long been touted as an effective treatment for male infertility have failed to improve sperm counts and sperm potency. The study was conducted by researchers of the University of Utah Health and was published in the journal - JAMA. Most of the fertility supplements contain zinc which is a mineral necessary for the development of sperm and folate which is the natural form of folic acid and helps in the formation of DNA of sperm. These supplements are also known as nutraceuticals are promoted as a natural way of enhancing sperm count, its formation and its movement. The researchers recruited 2,370 couples planning to undergo infertility treatments for this study. In the study, men were randomly assigned to either receive a daily supplement or a placebo that consists of 30 milligrams of zinc and 5 milligrams of folic acid for a period of six months. May approach alumni to create fund for economically weaker students: JNU VC

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar on hostel fee hike informed that authorities might approach alumni of university to create fund in order to help students coming from the weaker background. BSF seizes consignment of gold worth over 95 lakhs

Agartala (Tripura), Jan 08 (ANI): Border Security Force (BSF), on January 08, seized 2.267 Kg gold worth over Rs 95 lakhs from the outskirts of Agartala. JNU VC's advice to personalities supporting 'agitators' against campus violence

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) VC M Jagadesh Kumar had a discussion with MHRD Secretary over the law and order situation in the varsity. He said, "We had a detailed discussion with MHRD secretary and we explained to them the steps we are taking to bring normalcy in the university. Thousands of students are registering themselves for the new winter session. We hope that normal academic activities should take place as planned." Responding to the huge uproar on the visit of Deepika Padukone to JNU to join students' protest against violence, VC Jagadesh Kumar said, "I would like to ask all those great personalities coming to support agitators, what about thousands of students and teachers who are deprived of their rights of doing research and teaching? Why can't you stand with them?"

Iran refuses to handover crashed Ukrainian plane's black boxes to US

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Iranian authorities informed that they recovered the flight recorders of Ukraine's Boeing 737 aircraft that crashed near Tehran International Airport earlier on January 08. They also refused to hand over the black boxes to the Americans. All 176 people on board the flight to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev were killed when the plane crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran. The crashed Ukraine plane had 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians on board, reported AFP quoting a Ukraine minister. The Ukrainian Embassy in Tehran replaced its previous statement saying terrorism or rocket attacks had been ruled out as causes of the plane crash. "Information on the causes of the plane crash is being clarified by the commission," it said. Ukraine's embassy in Iran issued new statement on the plane crash in Iran, omitting the mention of engine failure as the cause.

JNU Teachers' Federation appeals for normalcy in campus

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Federation has appealed for normalcy in campus after violent attack on students and teachers on evening of January 05. Professor Ashwini Mohapatra said, "We appeal for normalcy on campus. JNUTF urges the Administration to ensure that those students who are registering in new semester are not subjected to any harassment and coercion by those averse to normal functioning of the University." There are 200 members in Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Federation.

We are not looking for war: Iranian Ambassador to India on conflict with US

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Responding to the missile strikes by Iran on US targets in Iraq, Iranian Ambassador to India, Dr Ali Chegeni, said that Iran is not looking for war. He said, "Whatever we have done is a part of our response. Millions of people who participated in the funeral of General Qassem Soleimani had demanded the government for it. We have done it. We are not looking for war." Further adding on India's role in ongoing US-Iran tension, Chegeni added, "India is a part of the region. It should be a part of de-escalation. We are welcoming any initiative from our good friends from India." Tensions between US and Iran escalated after Qassem Soleimani, the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' elite Quds Force was killed in a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 03.

Equities downbeat as oil prices rise after Iran strike on US troops

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices recovered from intraday lows but ended with marginal losses on Wednesday as investors feared a wider conflict in the Middle East after Iran fired missiles at US forces in Iraq overnight. The BSE SandP Sensex closed 52 points lower at 40,817 while the Nifty 50 slipped by 28 points at 12,025. Except for Nifty FMCG and IT, all sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were in the red. Among stocks, Eicher Motors closed 4.3 per cent lower at Rs 19,900 per share while Coal India slipped by 2.5 per cent, Larsen and Toubro by 2.2 per cent and Indian Oil Corporation by 1.9 per cent. India imports around 85 per cent of its crude oil requirement. Hence any rise in prices can lead to higher inflation and disturb the country's fiscal deficit.

Cabinet approves MoU between India, UK for Indian Railways' energy efficiency

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): Cabinet has approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between India and United Kingdom for enabling energy self sufficiency for Indian Railways. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar informed the development in a press conference on January 08. Cabinet also approved ratification of migration and mobility partnership agreement between India and France. Agreement signed in March 2018, is valid for seven years and incorporates provisions for auto-renewal.
