Indian Army conducts 'Sindhu Sudarshan' exercise in Rajasthan's Barmer

Amit Shah, Parliamentarians attend all-party meeting ahead of winter session

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived for the all-party meeting in Delhi on Nov 17. Union Ministers Thawarchand Gehlot and Arjun Ram Meghwal also arrived for the meeting. BSP MP Satish Chandra Mishra, TMC MP Derek O'Brien arrived for meeting. LJP MP Chirag Paswan and Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also joined. All-party meeting was called by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, ahead of winter session of Parliament. It is underway at the Parliament Library Building.

4th edition of WNC Navy Half Marathon organised in Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 17 (ANI): The fourth edition of the Western Naval Command (WNC) Navy Half Marathon was organised in Mumbai. The event was flagged off near Naval Dockyard in Ballard Estate, underlining connection between Indian Navy and city's historical maritime heritage. The marathon was flagged of by the Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard (Mumbai), Rear Admiral Sandeep Naithani. Over 15,000 runners participated in the marathon.

Devotees throng to offer prayers at Kerala's Sabarimala Temple

Sannidhanam (Kerala), Nov 17 (ANI): Several devotees thronged Sabarimala Temple in large numbers to offer prayers on November 17. The temple was opened on November 16 in the evening for the 'Mandala Pooja' festival. Security arrangements have also been beefed up in Sannidhanam after the Supreme Court (SC) lifted a traditional ban on entry of women of all ages in 2018. However, this decision later referred the review petitions to a larger seven-judge bench.

AQI under 'poor' category in NCR

Noida/ Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 17 (ANI): The air quality of National Capital Region (NCR) continues to reel. Thick layer of smog once again enveloped the sky in Noida and Ghaziabad on November 17. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, major pollutant in Noida is at 221 which shows 'poor' category. Residents of Ghaziabad have complained of spike in respiratory problems, allergies and other health issues. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution Prevention and Control Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency due to rising air pollution levels.

Maize crops damaged due to incessant rain in Karnataka's Shivamogga

Shivamogga (Karnataka), Nov 17: The unseasonal rains have wreaked havoc in Karnataka by not only disturbing the daily life of the people but also destroying the maize farms, which is one of the major commercial crops of the state. The incessant rain in early harvesting season from September to November has caused severe damage which has made the yield per hectare nose dive and the remaining produce to be sold off at lower rates. While speaking to ANI, a farmer narrated his ordeal and said, "This year rain has really devastated our life, more than 50 per cent of the maize crop has been destroyed, the price also dipped, the clouds developing in the evening are threatening the farmers from harvesting. Locals protest outside SDM office over killing of dalit man in Punjab's Sangrur

Sangrur (Punjab), Nov 17 (ANI): A dalit man died after being brutally beaten in Punjab's Sangrur district earlier this month. Jagmail Singh was tied to a pillar and beaten by four men and later died in a hospital in Chandigarh. Several locals and organisations protested outside the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office in Sangrur district over the incident on November 16. They demanded action against culprits in the related case. While speaking to ANI, Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission member, Punam Kangra said, "I have taken cognisance but there have been no arrests yet. We will take action against erring cops too."

Smog blankets Delhi, air quality remains 'Poor'

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): A layer of thick smog blankets the national capital on November 17. There is no respite for people as air quality remains 'Poor'. According to Air Quality Index (AQI), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road, PM 2.5 stood at 226, and PM 10 at 222, which means 'poor'. Cardiovascular issues may be connected to early menopause: Study

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): A new research suggests that attaining menopause before the age of 40 is linked to several heart conditions in women. The study was presented at the American Heart Association's Scientific Sessions 2019 in Philadelphia. During an average of seven years of follow-up, researchers found that women who had experienced premature menopause were significantly more likely to develop conventional heart disease risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high levels of "bad" cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes.

Pinterest's new feature attempts to curb self-harm searches on social media

New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): Pinterest, the go-to place for DIY projects, has introduced a new feature to help those looking at ways to self-harm. The new feature spots search queries that involve self-harm. Instead of showing related content, it shows 10 exercises such as drawing, writing down your feelings, or ripping up pages, instead of hurting oneself, to cope with the negative feelings, FastCompany reports. Earlier, Pinterest offered external links to resources such as the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, now these resources are integrated directly into the platform. The new activities are available to users in the US on iOS and Android.
