4 dead, 30 injured after bus vehicle lost control on old Pune-Mumbai highway

Pune (Maharashtra), Nov 04 (ANI): Four people died in an accident after a bus driver lost control of his vehicle on old Pune-Mumbai highway. The incident took place near Bhor Ghat on November 04. Around 30 people are also injured in the accident. They have been admitted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Odd-even scheme comes into force in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 04 (ANI): Odd-even scheme came into force in Delhi on Nov 04. Traffic police fined a driver for using an odd numbered vehicle near India Gate. Meanwhile, Traffic police fined another driver near ITO while driver said he was not aware of the scheme. The driver of the vehicle, Shubham said, "I live in Noida, I had come for some work last night, I was not aware of the fact that Odd-Even scheme is coming into effect from today onwards." Odd-even scheme will continue till Nov 15.

New Delhi, Nov 04 (ANI): In order to curb air pollution, the Arvind Kejriwal led-government in Delhi has announced the implementation of the odd-even scheme from November 04-15. The scheme is implemented from today. While speaking to ANI on Odd-Even scheme, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia said, "North India has been engulfed in smoke caused by stubble burning, right now we can't do anything about that, but if we follow the scheme for next 10 days, it will give some relief. It is for everybody's benefit."

Thick layer of smog blankets Delhi, air quality dips to 'severe' category

New Delhi, Nov 04 (ANI): The air quality of national capital took a hit due to a combination of firecracker emissions, stubble burning and unfavourable meteorological conditions in past few weeks. A thick layer of smog blankets the area of Rajpath in Delhi on November 04. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road area were PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 500 both in 'severe' category. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. As per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the AQI in ITO area is at 434 which reflects 'severe' category. Higher value of AQI indicates greater level of air pollution and health concern. Researchers develop technology to source electricity from clothes in IIT Kharagpur

Kharagpur (West Bengal), Nov 04 (ANI): The researchers at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur have developed a technology to source electricity from clothes drying in open space. The power which comes from electricity is changing lives of rural community. While speaking to ANI, the Professor of IIT Kharagpur, Suman Chakraborty said, "Clothes are made of cellulose fibers which have charge in their walls. If you immerse a piece of cloth in salt solution and it will flow through fibers and ionise. It generates a continuous voltage. If connected to external register and it can generate small power." "We have up-scaled this mechanism of generation of power by taking our technology to 'Dhobi Ghat' where washermen dry clothes. This power may not be good enough for large scale application but is good enough to change lives of rural community at large," professor added.

Delhi Odd-Even scheme to start today from 8 am

New Delhi, Nov 4 (ANI): Delhi Government's Odd-Even scheme will come into effect from November 4 morning and will continue till Nov 15 in a bid to control the deteriorating air quality in Delhi-NCR. The scheme will be applicable from 8 am to 8 pm. It will not be effective on Sunday, November 10. The rules will also apply to vehicles with registration numbers of other states. The violation of rules in the restricted hours will attract fine of Rs 4000. Rule will not be applicable for women drivers who will steer the vehicle alone or with other women on-board or with a child less than 12 years of age.

Massive fire engulfs shoe factory in Delhi's Peeragarhi

New Delhi, Nov 04 (ANI): A massive fire broke out at a 4-storey shoe factory in Delhi's Peeragarhi area on wee hours of Monday. 28 fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames. Even as air quality dips in national capital, Punjab farmers continue to burn stubble

Ludhiana (Punjab), Nov 03 (ANI): Farmers in Punjab continued to burn stubble even as the air quality in the national capital and its adjoining areas dipped to 'Hazardous' category on Sunday. According to the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC), incidents of straw burning have increased this year. The district administration on November 2 had penalised 133 farmers for resorting to stubble burning with the minimum fine of Rs 2,500. Earlier today, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sought the Central government's assistance to combat air pollution caused by stubble burning in neighbouring states.
