EDMC sprinkles water in Delhi's Geeta Colony to control air pollution

New Delhi/ Gurugram (Haryana), Nov 02 (ANI): The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) sprinkled water on roads in Geeta Colony area of the national capital on November 02. The step is taken to settle the dust as a pollution control measure. The AQI in Delhi has gone worst after Diwali. Extremely poor pollution levels were previously predicted in Delhi due to firecracker emissions, unfavourable weather and a significant spike in stubble burning in the neighbouring states. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. Meanwhile, water was also sprinkled in Haryana's Gurugram to combat air pollution.

Kuki girl Marlin Ningmuanching wins Miss Kut 2019 beauty pageant

Imphal (Manipur), Nov 02 (ANI): Kuki girl Marlin Ningmuanching won the Miss Kut 2019 title in the beauty pageant in Manipur's Imphal. She was declared winner in the two-day Kut festival. The festival took place at First Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal. Marlin received a cheque for Rs 1 lakh in the beauty contest. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also attended the event. The Miss Kut contest held every year since the last 40 years. The first and second runner up won Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively as winning prize. 21 girls from different communities appeared in the beauty pageant.

Stubble burning continues in Haryana's Kaithal despite dip in 'air quality'

Kaithal (Haryana), Nov 02 (ANI): The stubble burning continued in Haryana's Kaithal district despite having massive level of air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR). Even after state government's ban, farmers burnt crops in Haryana. Issue of stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana has become a major cause of air pollution not only for their states but also for Delhi-NCR region. While speaking to ANI, the Agriculture Deputy Director of Kaithal district, Pawan Kumar Sharma said, "133 farmers have been issued challans for stubble burning. This year there have been 60% less cases of stubble burning in Kaithal. FIR will also be registered against those farmers who do not pay fine." On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. Earlier, farmers who were identified for burning stubbles had been sent legal notice to stop the practice.

Rarest bird species 'Philippine Eagle' rescued in Odisha's Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj (Odisha), Nov 02 (ANI): World's rarest bird species 'Philippine Eagle' has been rescued by the forest department in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district on November 01. It is among the rarest and most powerful birds in the world. A team of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Baripada rushed to the spot and took 'Philippine Eagle' in their custody. Later, after medical checkup, the eagle was released. 'Philippine Eagle' is having its existence in Similipal National Park of Mayurbhanj district. Due to deforestation and other environmental issues that has been affecting climate changes, 'Philippine Eagle' are not seen much in number. 'Philippine Eagle' can stretch its wings up to 6.5 feet-long. Their weight is about 17 to 20 pound.

Thick blanket of smog covers Delhi, air quality dips to 'severe' category

New Delhi, Nov 02 (ANI): The air quality of national capital took a hit due to a combination of firecracker emissions, stubble burning and unfavourable meteorological conditions in past few weeks. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data and System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), major pollutants in Delhi's Lodhi Road area were PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 500 both in 'severe' category. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. 2 elephants found dead in Assam's Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh (Assam), Nov 2 (ANI): Two wild female elephants were found dead in a paddy field at Sessa Nagaon village of Dibrugarh district in Assam. According to locals, the carcasses of the elephants were found by some villagers. Since the dead jumbos did not bore any injury marks, it is suspected that they might have died of electrocution.
