Chhapra (Bihar), Aug 21 (ANI): A police sub-inspector and a constable were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Bihar's Chhapra. The incident took place near Marhaura market of Saran district. As per information, the part of a police team was reportedly returning after conducting a raid in that area. Sub-Inspector Mithilesh Kumar and constable Farooq were part of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was investigating a robbery case that took place at a house in Marhaura market few days back. An SIT was formed to investigate this case. Meanwhile, another cop, who got injured in the firing, has been admitted in the hospital for medical treatment. Police is present at the spot and have begun investigation in this case. Several police teams have been formed and raids are being conducted in adjoining areas to apprehend the assailants.
New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): Researchers have developed a method to predict post-traumatic osteoarthritis in patients with ligament ruptures using a simplified computational model. The study was published in the journal - Clinical Biomechanics. It also verified the model predictions against measured structural and compositional changes in the knee joint between follow-up times. Knee joint injuries such as ligament rupture are common among athletes. As the intact joint ligaments offer a precondition for joint stability, ligament injuries are often surgically reconstructed. However, in many cases, these injuries or surgeries can lead to post-traumatic osteoarthritis.
Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 21 (ANI): In Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, a unique initiative has begun on August 20. The city administration of Gorakhpur has started a project to geo-tag cattle to curb the rising cases of abandoned cattle wandering the streets. Gorakhpur Municipal Commissioner Anjani Kumar Singh said that the project was launched as there were several complaints regarding traffic issues due to abandoned cattle wandering on streets. While speaking to ANI, Municipal Commissioner of Gorakhpur Anjani Kumar Singh said, "We have started geo-tagging of cattle as there were several complaints regarding traffic issues due to abandoned cattle wandering on roads." "Now, if a geo-tagged animal is found wandering on streets, we can identify the owner and penalise him for leaving his or her cattle stranded on roads. With Geo-tagging, it will also help us to keep a count of cattle in the area," he added.
Jalandhar (Punjab), Aug 21 (ANI): Around 20 villages are badly affected after a dam breached due to heavy water flow in Punjab's Jalandhar. The flood-like situation has triggered evacuation from at least 85 villages. Villagers have refused to move their belonging as they are blaming the local authorities for not providing proper facilities during the flood-like situation. Several flood relief centers have been created to monitor the overall situation. Meanwhile, 'Langar' is also being prepared by the food supply teams. With news of release of 2 lakh cusecs of water from the Bhakra Dam, villagers got little time to prepare for evacuation.
Pune (Maharashtra), Aug 21 (ANI): A leopard was rescued by the forest department in Maharashtra's Pune on August 20. He was rescued from a well in Ambe village of Pune. Local police personnel were also present while the rescue operation was being carried out. Later, the leopard was shifted to rescue centre for further medical treatment.
New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has put up a notice outside the residence of former union finance minister P Chidambaram on August 20, asking the latter to appear before the agency within two hours. The notice was put outside the home of the Congress leader in Delhi. Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court had dismissed his both anticipatory bail pleas in connection with INX Media case. High Court observed that P Chidambaram is the 'key conspirator' in the INX Media case.

He said, "Yesterday was the first day when we had taken a decision to open primary schools across all districts of Kashmir. We did start that and there were staff members as well as students who attended, though the students' attendance yesterday was not very high." He further added, "Today as we have reviewed the position, we have noticed a considerable improvement in attendance of children and encouraging feedback and requests from parents. Keeping in view the request that we have received it has been decided that middle school in Kashmir Valley will also start functioning from tomorrow in areas where primary schools are already open."

Nagaon (Assam), Aug 20 (ANI): Forest officials along with NGO activists rescued a 14.4-feet-long python in Assam's Nagaon district on Tuesday. The python weighing around 35 kilograms was found by the rescuers in one of the tea gardens and was later released in a nearby forest area. A wildlife activist involved in the rescue operation said "Today, along with the team of forest officials, we have rescued a python. The python was safely brought out of the tea garden. We later released it in a nearby forest area".

Patna (Bihar), Aug 20 (ANI): Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar visited late former chief minister Jagannath Mishra's residence in Bihar on August 20. Mishra passed away in a hospital in Delhi on August 19. He was 82. He had been unwell for the last several months. While speaking to mediapersons, Nitish said, "We all are saddened by the death of Jagannath Mishra. He is gone now but what he did for the Bihar, we will never forget it. As a person, I always respected him. I pay my condolences to him."

Houses constructed near the river have been submerged in water leading to the displacement of thousands of people. One of the locals said, "We have to move to some other place as the water level in the river is rising at a very fast pace. We are facing a lot of problems as we have to shift to some other place. We have packed everything and moving in the area which is upwards."

Mumbai, Aug 20 (ANI): Veteran music composer Mohammed Zahur 'Khayyam' Hashmi passed away in Mumbai on August 19. His last rites were performed in Mumbai with full state honours. Khayyam was 92-years-old. He is known for his composition in films like 'Kabhi Kabhie' and 'Umrao Jaan'.
Bengaluru (Karnataka), Aug 20 (ANI): Chandrayaan-2 was successfully placed in the moon's orbit on August 20. While addressing the press conference in Bengaluru, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief K Sivan said, "Chandrayaan-2 mission crossed a major milestone today, the precise lunar orbit insertion maneuver was carried out at 9 am for about 30 minutes and Chandrayaan 2 was precisely inserted in the defined orbit." The spacecraft will be the first Indian expedition to attempt a soft landing on the lunar surface. The mission will make the India the fourth country after the US, Russia, and China to carry out a soft landing on the moon.
