Hawaii (USA), May 07 (ANI): The spewing of lava from Kilauea volcano in Hawaii's Big Island showed no signs of stopping as at least 26 homes have been destroyed in the aftermath of the eruption in Leilani Estates. Hundreds of residents of Hawaii's Big Island continued to flee as lava and molten rocks, erupted from Kilauea volcano, spewed into the neighbourhoods of the island.

New fissure triggers lava up to 230 feet in Hawaii

Hawaii (United States), May 07 (ANI): Nearly 2,000 people on Hawaii's Big Island have been evacuated from homes after lava eruptions destroyed five houses and sulphur dioxide gas threatened to harm anyone who stayed in the residential area, officials said. A new fissure spewed lava up to 230 feet (70 m) into the air and new cracks opened on a highway in the Leilani Estates area, about a dozen miles (19 km) from where the Kilauea volcano erupted, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said in a statement. The southeast corner of the island was rocked by a 6.9 tremor, the strongest since 1975, and more earthquakes and eruptions were forecast, perhaps for months to come. No injuries or deaths were reported.

Cannes (France), May 6 (ANI): Massive poster for the Cannes Film Festival was rolled out on the walls of the festival venue on Sunday as the resort gets ready to welcome stars and film fans for the 71st gathering on the French Riviera.The poster features a sunlit kiss between a man and a woman sitting in adjacent cars. According to festival director Thierry Fremaux organisers wanted to put love centre stage. The shot is taken from the 1965 film "Pierrot le Fou" (Pierrot the Madman) by French director and new wave icon Jean-Luc Godard. Godard will make his return to Cannes this year at the age of 87 with his film "The Image Book" The festival opens on May 8 with 21 films competing for the top prize, the Palme d'Or, to be announced on May 19.

Royal family debuts official glimpse of Prince Louis

London (UK), May 06 (ANI): Britain's royals released the first official photographs of Prince Louis, which were taken by the baby prince's mother the Duchess of Cambridge, Katherine Middleton. In one of the pictures Princess Charlotte, was seen holding her little brother. It was a throwback to another photo, when Charlotte was born and the eldest sibling, Prince George held her in his arms. Louis, who is fifth in line to the British throne, was born on April 23. Due to a 2013 change in the law, Charlotte is the first British princess for whom the arrival of a younger brother does not mean being demoted down the line of succession. Meanwhile, Palace officials have confirmed that Prince Louis would not join the rest of his family at the May 19 wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Left-wing protestors say 'enough' to Macron's French reforms

Paris (France), May 06 (ANI): Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Paris to protest against the stream of economic reforms brought in by French president Emmanuel Macron since coming to power a year ago. Protestors held "Stop Macron" banners and chanted "one year is enough" amidst drummers and marching bands in an anti-celebration of Macron's time in office organized by a member of the hard-left France Unbowed movement. The protest comes almost a year since 40-year-old Macron won the presidential elections. Members of France Unbowed, headed by Jean-Luc Melenchon have sought to fire up a backlash against Macron's policies by getting backers onto the streets. France Unbowed is pushing to hold a much larger rally with unions and other forces on May 26.

Weight loss surgery could be harmful for bone health, says study

New Delhi, May 05 (ANI): Weight loss surgery can have far worse effects than initially thought. According to a study conducted by the Wiley, weight loss surgery can cause declines in bone mass and strength and it is linked to an increased risk of bone fractures. Skeletal changes after surgery appear early and continue even after weight loss plateaus and weight stabilizes. Nutritional factors, mechanical unloading, hormonal factors, and changes in body composition and bone marrow fat may contribute to poor bone health. The study appears in the journal JBMR Plus.

Pashtuns labelled as 'terrorists' by Pakistan, alleges activist Fazal-ur-Rehman Afridi

Geneva (Switzerland), May 05 (ANI): Prominent Pashtun human rights activist Fazal-ur-Rehman Afridi said that the Pashtun community was being labelled as 'terrorists' by the Pakistan military forces. He further alleged that they were being suppressed completely by Pakistan. He also claimed that the Pakistan government was supporting the military establishment in oppressing the Pashtuns such as arbitrary detentions, abductions, enforced disappearances, torture and extrajudicial killings. Watch: US military plane crash carried nine personnel

United States, May 03 (ANI): The United States military officials confirmed that nine personnel were aboard the military plane that crashed near Savannah in Georgia state. Major Paul Dahlen of the Puerto Rican National Guard confirmed to CNN that the plane, Air National Guard WC-130 carried nine personnel including five crew and four passengers, Dahlen said the plane was flying out to Arizona from the 156th Airlift Wing in Puerto Rico to be de-commissioned. A Puerto Rican Government source said that none of the personnel apparently survived the plane crash. Meanwhile, Highway 21 in Savannah, where the accident took place will remain closed on the order of the Effingham County Sheriff.

Trump hints at release of 3 Americans detained in North Korea

Cambridge Analytica shuts down after data scandal

New Delhi, May 03 (ANI): Controversial political consultancy Cambridge Analytica is shutting down after reports surfaced regarding a massive scandal over data it collected from Facebook during the 2016 election. The company said both Cambridge Analytica and its parent, SCL Elections, will cease all operations immediately as bankruptcy proceedings are to begin soon. The company came under heavy attack after it was revealed Cambridge had improperly accessed the data of 87 million Facebook users while working for President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign.
