London (United Kingdom), Apr 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met British Prime Minister Theresa May in London on Wednesday. PM Modi will be taking part in the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Later he will be visiting an exhibition on 5000 years of Science and Innovation followed by attending a Living Bridge Themed Reception. He will also be honoured in a private audience with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace, an event which has been organised previously for only three nations.

London (UK), Apr 18 (ANI): Indian community welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of a unique programme 'Bharat Ki Baat, Sabke Saath' at the iconic Central Hall Westminster in London on Wednesday. The venue of PM Modi's one of its kind event has a unique history. It was where the first-ever meeting of the United Nations took place in 1946 and has hosted historical figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King.

Chemical weapons experts enter Syria's Douma

Syria, Apr 18 (ANI): Global chemical weapons experts finally reached the Syrian town of Douma on Tuesday (April 17), amid fears that evidence of an alleged chemical weapons attack there will now have been cleaned up. David Doyle reports. Syrian state television reported that inspectors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons had entered the site where Western countries say scores of civilians were gassed to death on April 7. Syria and its ally Russia deny that any chemical attack took place.

Starbucks to close 8,000 stores for race-sensitivity class on May 29

New Delhi, Apr 18 (ANI): Starbucks announced plans to close its more than 8,000 company-owned locations during the afternoon of May 29 to provide racial tolerance training to employees in wake of an embarrassing incident in Philadelphia. Taking a big step Tuesday to try and turn down the temperature after the arrest of two African-American men at a Philadelphia Starbucks sparked days of protests and calls for a boycott over claims of racial profiling. Starbucks says all of its 8,000-plus company owned locations in the U.S. will be shut down for the afternoon of May 29, so staff can go through racial-bias training. CEO Kevin Johnson took the drastic step after meeting with and apologizing to the two men who were arrested after a manager called the police though the two men were not misbehaving in any way. That manager is no longer with the company.

PM Modi visited United Kingdom (UK) on second leg of 3-nation tour. He is also scheduled to participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting being hosted by the UK which will take over as the new Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth from Malta. He is on a five-day three-nation tour.

Stockholm (Sweden), Apr 18 (ANI): Loud chants of "Modi, Modi" and "Vande Mataram" rent the air at Stockholm University as Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven arrived at the venue to address the Indian diaspora gathered there. PM Modi arrived in Stockholm, the first bilateral visit by an Indian premier to the Nordic nation in 30 years. The Prime Minister is on the first leg of his five-day foreign tour which will also take him to the UK where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. The Prime Minister is currently on a five-day visit to Sweden, the United Kingdom and Germany.

British PM Theresa May apologises to Caribbean countries over treatment of post-war migrants

London (United Kingdom), Apr 18 (ANI): British Prime Minister Theresa May apologised to representatives from 12 Caribbean countries on Tuesday over recent harsh treatment of people who came to the United Kingdom as children following World War Two. The "Windrush generation," whose parents were invited to Britain to plug labor shortfalls between 1948 and 1971, have been caught up in a tightening of immigration rules overseen by May in 2012 when she was interior minister. The British Prime Minister was meeting with leaders and diplomats from the Caribbean countries, who were in London for a summit of Commonwealth heads of government.

Stockholm (Sweden), Apr 18 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government has left behind the culture of sloganeering about Garibi Hatao (poverty eradication) and made empowerment a tool. "There used to just slogans about Garibi Hatao. We have left behind that culture. Empowerment has been made a tool to uplift the living standards of poor. Be it the empowerment of the weaker section of the society or of women; Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas mantra is becoming a reality," the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister along with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven addressed the Indian diaspora at Stockholm University.

Bomb blast outside Indian consulate office in Nepal

Biratnagar (Nepal), Apr 17 (ANI): A crude bomb went off near the Indian consulate office in Nepal's Biratnagar late on Monday damaging the walls of the premises. The explosion happened at around 8:20 pm and caused a hole in the compound wall. No one was in the office at the time of the incident. The security around the office has been beefed up after the incident. Nepal police is suspecting cadres of a local political group to be behind the blast. Indian embassy in Nepal set up a temporary office during floods in Nepal and north Bihar and it still continues to function since then.
