Northern U.S, (U.S.A), Jan 18 (ANI): The burst of snow across the country has forced some cities to close schools. A layer of ice had coated roads and bridges causing extremely hazardous driving conditions. Crashes have resulted in blocked roads in multiple locations. Georgia Governor Nathan Deal issued a state of emergency for 83 counties that cover much of north and central Georgia. Snow is also falling from parts of the Florida panhandle up to Maine.
Washington, D.C. (U.S.), Jan 17 (ANI): The White House informed that a bipartisan immigration proposal presented to U.S. President Donald Trump last week failed to adequately address his priorities, particularly in its level of funding for border security. "This simply failed to address the things that were laid out", White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said during. "Specifically one of the areas that really, really fell short was the funding for border security. They only put in one-tenth of what the Department of Homeland Security said they needed", she added.
Washington, D.C. (United States), Jan 17 (ANI): White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson said that United States President Donald Trump overall health 'is excellent' and he did 'exceedingly well' on cognitive screening. Trump had a normal score on a cognitive exam and is in excellent health, although he could benefit from a lower-fat diet and more exercise, Jackson added. The U.S President had performed well on a cognitive assessment, which the president had requested, said Jackson.
PoK, Jan 16: Traders in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan occupied Kashmir, blocked the Neelum Valley road and burnt tyres to show their anger against load shedding and damage of transformers in the area. The protest was called by the Anjuman e Tajiran (or trade union) in Muzaffarabad as local businessmen have been facing huge losses due to severe power cuts.
Athens (Greece), Jan 16 (ANI): Thousands of Greeks took to the streets of Athens to protest new reforms which could make significant changes to the country. The Greek Parliament on Monday passed several reforms demanded by international lenders in exchange for fresh bailout funds. The bill introduces a new electronic process for foreclosures on overdue loans and outstanding payments to the state, opens up closed professions, restructures family benefits and makes it harder to call a strike. About 20,000 people rallied outside parliament during the vote. Bus, subway and city rail services were disrupted and some flights were grounded as workers went on strike to protest against the bill. As the vote was in progress, police fired teargas to disperse protesters who hurled stones and petrol bombs at them.
Jakarta (Indonesia), Jan 16 (ANI): At least 77 people have been injured after the lobby floor at the Indonesian stock exchange in Jakarta, collapsed on Monday. Witnesses said a mezzanine floor overlooking the main lobby of the Exchange collapsed. The high-rise building was built in the late 1990s and was bombed by Islamist militants in 2000. The Exchange resumed business in the afternoon as per schedule and closed 0.2 percent higher.
Washington DC, Jan 16 (ANI): The Free Karachi campaign is gaining momentum in United States' Washington DC as100 taxis were launched with #FreeKarachi banners to participate in Dr Martin Luther King Day parade. The taxis were flagged off at a function in Anacostia Art Center in 1231 Good Hope Road. The Free Karachi movement comes after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Hasan Zafar Arif was found dead in a car in Karachi's Ilyas Goth area on Sunday. Dr Arif, who was also the MQM-London's deputy convener, used to teach Philosophy at the University of Karachi. He was an alumnus of the University of Reading and Harvard University.
Florida (United States), Jan 15 (ANI): Amid reports of United States President Donald Trump's derogatory comments about immigrants from Haiti and Africa, he said on Sunday that he is 'not a racist'. Trump added that he was 'ready, willing and able' to reach a deal to protect immigrants brought to the United States as children. "No. I'm not a racist. I'm the least racist person you have ever interviewed," Trump said.
Tongi (Bangladesh), Jan 15 (ANI): Hundreds and thousands of Muslims from across the world made their way to Bangladesh's Tongi, for the Bishwa Ijtema annual pilgrimage, the second biggest gathering of Muslims after the Haj. First phase of the pilgrimage, held over three days, ended on Sunday with a concluding mass prayer. Muslim scholars from Bangladesh and abroad delivered several sermons on Islamic philosophy. Overcrowded trains and buses carried scores of worshippers to and from the prayer event. Second phase of the Ijtema will begin on January 20 and conclude on January 22.

Since the PML (N) government has come to power, our problems manifold". It is ironic that the hub of hydropower generation, PoK suffers long and persistent power outages, ranging from four to 12 hours. As per an estimate, PoK produces roughly 1,500 MW electricity through hydropower but fails to get its total requirement of 400
Bern (Switzerland), Jan 14 (ANI): Anti-globalisation demonstrators marched in Switzerland's capital Bern to protest against United States President Donald Trump's planned visit to World Economic Forum in Davos. Hundreds of protesters marched peacefully past the Swiss parliament in Bern. During the protest some were clad in black and carried placards saying "No future for capitalism", "Eat the rich" and "Kill Trump", also setting off flares. The U.S. President announced last week that he would attend the WEF in Davos, an annual meeting of global business and political leaders. Up to 5,000 Swiss soldiers have been drafted in to guard Davos along with 1,000 police, while a no-fly zone will also be put in place to protect delegates.
Kathmandu (Nepal), Jan 13 (ANI): Nepal residents from Friday formally started using the Chinese broadband after years of efforts but the skeptics over its durability still persist. The state owned Nepal Telecom and the China Telecom Global formally established the collaboration for the trans-border internet connection. The fiber link route, which now has entered Nepal via the Rasuwagadhi, is still to erase the doubt of people. Nepal is currently linked to the global internet connectivity through Indian telecom operators via different optical fiber connections in Biratnagar, Bhairahawa and Birgunj, among others. Meanwhile, the optional bandwidth from China is also expected to increase the competition between the various internet service providers in the country, reduce internet cost for consumers and boost the quality of internet in the country.
France, Jan 13 (ANI): Sale of a number of Lactalis baby foods made at one of its factories in Lactalis were halted after a salmonella health scare began last month. Over 30 children have fallen ill and the crisis deepened this week. Carrefour, Leclerc, Auchan and Systeme U admitted some products were still being sold. The government is now hoping to limit reputational damage. The recall also risks damaging Lactalis in China, a fast-growing market for baby food and dairy products. Consumers there are highly sensitive after melamine-tainted baby milk led to the deaths of six children in 2008. Lactalis has annual sales of around 17 billion euros The halting of operations at the affected factory has led to a temporary lay off of 250 workers.
