Lahore (Pakistan), Jan 01 (ANI): Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) Chief and 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed continues to spread religious hatred from the Pakistan soil as he, recently, invited all Islamic states to launch 'Jihad' gainst the United States and Israel. Hundreds of JuD activists participated in a rally 'Tahafuz Baitul Muqaddas' at the Istanbul Chowk in Lahore. The event was attended by JuD leaders, including Hafiz Saeed and Abdul Rehman Makki. The event was conducted in the wake of the US President Donald Trump-led administration unilaterally identifying and declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The United Nations- and US-designated terrorist was recently released from house arrest after a Pakistani court cited lack of evidence against him in the Mumbai attack case. India has protested against Pakistan time and again for harbouring Saeed. He is wanted for allegedly plotting the Mumbai attacks that took place on November 26, 2008.

San Jose (Costa Rica), Jan 01 (ANI): A private plane carrying 12 people onboard has crashed in the hilly areas of Costa Rica. According to latest reports, among the deceased, 10 have been identified as U.S. citizens, while two of them as Costa Rican citizens. The plane was reportedly travelling from the Costa Rican capital San Jose to Punta Islita, a popular tourist resort, on Sunday evening when it crashed suddenly and burst into flames in a mountainous area near Bejuco town in Guanacaste province.

Mashhad and Tehran (Iran), Dec 31 (ANI): Annual nation-wide pro-government rallies were held in Iran on Saturday (December 30) to mark the end of the unrest that shook the country in 2009, after price protests earlier in the week turned political in a dozen cities. State television showed marchers carrying banners in support of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran's second largest city of Mashhad and a similar rally in the capital Tehran.
Gilgit/Skardu/Lahore, Dec 30 (ANI): Residents of Gilgit-Baltistan staged a demonstration against Pakistan outside Press Club in Lahore. They raised slogans of freedom saying 'hum leke rahenge azaadi' (we will attain freedom). One of the protestors in Gilgit-Baltistan's Skardu said Pakistan should not treat them like animals. He added: "We should be given all the basic rights at par with other citizens. Until they give us our basic rights, they do not have any right to impose taxes on us. We are not ready to accept the taxes you (Pakistan) have imposed on us, it is illegal."

Liberia's elections board certified former international football star George Weah as the winner of the nation's presidential election. Cairo (Egypt), Dec 30 (ANI): At least 9 people were killed after gunmen attacked the Mar Mina church south of Cairo. According to medical and security sources, out of deceased three were policeman. The attacker was wearing an explosive vest and was shot dead by the church's security forces. Two other bombs are said to have been defused near the church. A second attacker has been captured according to state media. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Lima (Peru), Dec 29 (ANI): Peruvians enraged over President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's pardon of former strongman Alberto Fujimori marched, in what was expected to be the biggest protest yet against the two men since the Christmas Eve measure was announced. The size and impact of the protests could be an indication of whether the uproar over the pardon locks Kuczynski's already weak government into a political crisis, or peters out as he revamps his Cabinet and seeks new allies in Congress. At least 40,000 people were expected to march in the capital Lima, and demonstrations were also planned in cities across the country and in foreign capitals, according to Jorge Rodriguez, a representative of one of the activist groups organizing the protests.
Kabul (Afghanistan), Dec 29 (ANI): At least 40 people were killed and 30 were injured after a suicide bomb attack at a news agency in Kabul on Thursday. Currently the region is being under heavy security and high alert. Officials say the explosion hit a news agency and a neighboring Shi'ite cultural centre. Many of the victims were students attending a conference, a discussion on the anniversary of the Soviet invasion of the country. Islamic State said in an online statement that it was responsible for the attack, the latest in a series the movement has claimed on Shi'ite targets in Kabul. High-profile attacks in Afghanistan's big cities have continued despite heavy U.S. airstrikes on militants across the country.

Yangon (Myanmar), Dec 28 (ANI): Two Reuters journalists detained in Myanmar for the past two weeks were remanded back into custody on Wednesday for a further 14 days. Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo appeared at a court in Yangon over allegations they breached the nation's Official Secrets Act. The two were allowed to meet their families and their lawyer for the first time since their arrest on December the 12th - soon after being invited to meet police officials over dinner. The journalists had worked on Reuters coverage of the migrant crisis, which has seen an estimated 655,000 Rohingya Muslims flee from a military crackdown in the western state of Rakhine. Myanmar's Ministry of Information has said they "illegally acquired information with the intention to share it with foreign media". They could face a maximum prison sentence of 14 years.

Villa Clara (Cuba), Dec 27 (ANI): At least 39 people have been injured at a fireworks explosion at the annual Parrandas festival in Cuba. The annual spectacular Christmas eve Parrandas festival in the Cuban town of Remedios turned into a tragedy following the mishap. Injured people were rushed to hospital after they received severe burns due to an explosion. But the show went on even after the incident as the participants and tourists got up very close to the launching fireworks despite the earlier explosion. Two of the town's neighborhoods are pitted against each other in this festival with each side competing to put on the most spectacular show. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): North Korea's neighbor South Korea on Tuesday said that North Korea is likely to hold talks in the year 2018 regarding its submission of Nukes.
