Gilgit/Rawalakot, Dec 26: Widespread protests have erupted across Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit Baltistan against Pakistan's ill treatment of the region and its people. In Gilgit-Baltistan, people have come out onto the streets shouting anti-Pakistan slogans and rejecting the Pakistan Government's enforced taxation. However, in Rawalakot city, people came out onto the streets to protest against the discriminatory surge in load shedding hours.

Topless activist tries to snatch Jesus statue from Vatican Nativity scene

Vatican City, Dec 26 (ANI): A topless woman from Ukrainian-French radical feminist group tried to snatch the statue of baby Jesus in the Vatican Nativity scene. She was stopped before she could take it away. The woman was wearing just pants and shoes and jumped over the guard rails protecting the creche in St. Peter's Square. She then bolted after the baby Jesus shouting, "God is woman."

Protesters clash with police over Fujimori pardon

Lima (Peru), Dec 26 (ANI): A clash broke out between police officers and protesters in Lima. This came a day after Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski pardoned former authoritarian leader Alberto Fujimori. Tens and hundreds of Peruvians marched through the streets of Lima to protest against pardon granted to former leader Alberto Fujimori. The protestors also called on President Kuczynski to step down in a second day of unrest. As the march made its way through downtown, clashes between officers in riot gear and protesters erupted. Police had to resort to tear gas to disperse crowds.

New York, Dec 26 (ANI): World Balochistan Organiation (WBO) has up the stakes to raise their voice against the atrocities committed by Pakistan against Balochistan by mobile advertising in New York, USA. The campaign to spread awareness among the New Yorkers is expected to continue for a month. Apart from several cabs, a truck was spotted by ANI displaying a board targeting CPEC, which read "No to CPEC, the China-Pakistan project aims to loot and plunder Balochistan." Earlier, several cabs and buses in London were spotted with banners of Free Balochistan.

Queen Elizabeth pays tribute to Grenfell Tower, terrorism victims in her Christmas speech

London, Dec 26 (ANI): Queen Elizabeth delivering her Christmas speech paid tribute to the victims of Grenfell Tower fire and Manchester bombings. The Queen thanked the emergency services for their hard work which helped saving many lives. 22 people died including children and several got injured in the terrorist attack during a pop concert in Manchester. Grenfell Tower in London claimed 70 lives earlier this year.

Putin's opposition leader Navalny barred from presidential elections

Moscow (Russia), Dec 26 (ANI): The opposition leader and critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalny was barred from contesting presidential edition scheduled in March 2018. The country's central election commission decided to bar him for his ineligibility as the president due to his past criminal record. Alexei Navalny is a sharp critique of Vladimir Putin and he has been jailed three times this year for holding public meetings breaking the law by repeatedly organizing public meetings and rallies. The renowned campaigner against corruption has urged his supporters to boycott elections. Vladimir Putin is expected to win once again and retain power 17 years in a row.

Pakistan's Foreign Office releases new Kulbhushan Jhadav video

Islamabad (Pakistan), Dec 25 (ANI): Moments after mother and wife of former Indian Naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav met him in Islamabad, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) released his 'confessional' video where the convicted alleged spy was seen confessing that he did cross from Iran to Pakistan two years back. The video was apparently shot before he got to meet his kin. Jadav also said that he had requested to meet his family members and that he was grateful to the Pakistan Government for letting that happen. "I crossed from Iran to Pakistan about two years back while working with RAW. I have been treated with dignity and honour and in a very professional manner by the Pakistani authorities," Jadhav said, in the video. He added: "I requested meeting my wife on humanitarian ground and I have been informed that my mother and wife are going to meet me today. I am really thankful to the government of Pakistan for showing this grand gesture."

Islamabad (Pakistan), Dec 25 (ANI): Kulbhushan Jadhav's mother and wife met him at the Pakistan Foreign Affairs Ministry in Islamabad on Monday. Wife and mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav reached Pakistan Foreign Affairs Ministry in Islamabad along with Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh earlier in the day. The two women first visited the Indian High Commission in the Pakistani capital, after which they moved to meet Jadhav at the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

Philippines mall up in fumes claims 37 lives

Davao City (Philippines), Dec 25 (ANI): At least 37 people died and six were rescued after fire broke out in a mall in Philippines' Davao City. The fire started at furniture shop and later spread to first and second floor of the mall. The reason behind the fire is unknown and investigation is underway. Philippines' President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, Sara Duterte visited the spot to take stock of the situation.

Philippine storm death toll rises to 200

Manila (Philippines), Dec 24 (ANI): Rescuers in the Philippines searched for survivors of a storm that triggered floods and landslides and killed about 200 people, left scores missing and thousands homeless, most of whom apparently ignored warnings to move to safety.Misery in the largely Christian Philippines was compounded by the death of at least 37 people in a shopping mall fire, officials said on Christmas Eve. The Philippines is battered by about 20 typhoons a year and warnings are routinely issued, but the level of destruction wreaked by tropical storm Tembin on the southern island of Mindanao from late on Friday came as a surprise.

Gilgit (PoK), Dec 24 (ANI): A 'shutter down' protest was observed in Gilgit against the illegal taxes being imposed in the region by the Government. People from all walks of life in Gilgit-Baltistan were out on the streets shouting and protesting against the unjust and the immoral taxes slapped over them. The local economy has suffered a setback as shops and markets remain shut. The region of Gilgit-Baltistan, which finds no place in the constitutional framework of the Pakistan has been meted out with state sponsored barbarism for years and this illegal levying of taxes have just added to the woes of local people.

Massive protest erupt in PoK, Gilgit Baltistan against ill treatment of locals by Pakistan

Gilgit, Rawalakot (PoK), Dec 23 (ANI): Widespread protests have erupted across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit Baltistan against Pakistan's ill treatment of the region and its people. In Gilgit-Baltistan, people have come out onto the streets shouting anti-Pakistan slogans and rejecting the Pakistan Government's enforced taxation. Markets and business establishments remained shut and traders in large numbers gathered in major cities, including Gilgit and Skardu to express their anger against the imposition of `illegal' taxes by Islamabad. In Rawalakot city, people came out onto the streets to protest against the discriminatory surge in load shedding hours. The protest was organised by the Jammu Kashmir National Awami Party (JKNAP), which claimed that the PoK produces some 5,000 mega watts of electricity from five dams and 4500 Megawatts of that electricity is diverted to the Islamabad grid leaving the local people with just 500 Megawatts.

29 killed after fire breaks out in fitness centre

Jecheon (South Korea), Dec 23 (ANI): At least 29 people lost their lives after a massive fire broke out in a fitness centre in South Korea's Jecheon. Most of the victims were gathered in a sauna when the flames broke out and the main cause of death was suffocation, rather than burns. According to officials, it was a vehicle in the basement parking lot that first caught fire, which then quickly spread to the rest of the eight storey building. Video from witnesses showed a thick plume of smoke rising from the area at the time. Currently, the government is investigating the cause of the fire.

U.S. welcomes Saudi-led coalition's move to keep Yemen port open

Washington, D.C. (U.S.), Dec 22 (ANI): The United States has welcomed an announcement by a Saudi-led coalition to keep the Hodeidah port in Yemen open for a month and allow humanitarian aid to flow through. It also condemned a Houthi bombing of a palace in Saudi Arabia. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Tim Lenderking said the United States would have a conversation with Saudi Arabia about 30 days the port will be open and about possibly changing the timeline, but said the U.S. first wants to see ships moving in and goods and services reaching the people of Yemen. Lenderking also said there was no military solution to the conflict and that President Donald Trump's administration believes the best course is 'aggressive diplomacy'.

General Assembly decided to hold a vote in favor of a draft U.N. resolution calling for the U.S. to withdraw its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said the U.S. will 'remember this day' for being 'singled out'. "The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in the General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation," Haley said. "We will remember it when we are called upon to once again make the world's largest contribution to the United Nations and we will remember it when so many countries come calling on us as they so often do to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit."

Yazidi sisters reunite after 3 years in Islamic State captivity

Iraq, Dec 22 (ANI): Three Yazidi sisters were reunited this week after more than three years since they were kidnapped by Islamic State militants. They were taken by the militants in an assault on Sinjar, the Yazidi heartland on August 3, 2014. One of the sisters was taken to Syria while other was shifted to Turkey. They were later returned to Kurdish fighters and Iraqi government.
